Oh, Berlyn... you said you used canned biscuits. Have you ever used the frozen variety? Gotta tell ya, my eaters love them. I buy the kroger variety, not only are they cheaper but we think they taste better too. Another plus, you only cook as many as you want/need. Instead of a whole can.

If we don't get some rain, we won't have a dewberry crop or cotton or milo or soybeans or our beloved bluebonnets. Hay has doubled in price here in South Texas. The panhandle is burning as I type!! I smell drought this summer.
Unfortunately, we have 3 choices in this wonderful town to shop. Gucci HEB, Ghetto HEB and Wallyworld!! Krogers, Albertson & Safeway pulled out years ago.
I get the heebie jeebies when I pick them. Snakes, YUK!!!

Berlyn,
I'm sure you can substitute other berries. I've even used sliced apples. I sautee the apples in a little butter cinnamon and brown sugar and some water simmer until tender and then thicken with corn starch mixture. Sorry I don't have exact measurments, most of the time I "eyeball" my quantities.

I eyeball my recipes and taste test as I cook.
What type of apples would you recommend??
What type of the bag of bisquits do you use??
I've always thought about trying them, but out of habit I grab the can.

What an array of choices 1 We drive 17 miles to get to Country HEB. and 32 miles to get to Wallyworld. But I don't have to worry about picking dewberry snakes, because I can't see them anymore...so I buy fresh or frozen...v

Berlyn,
I use granny smith apples or gala apples. Any firm apple will do. About the biscuits, sorry to say but this Northerner makes her own.
By the way never heard of a dewberry. What do they taste like/look like.
