Hmm...my dad is this extremely paranoid person who gets worried about everything. (He even thinks that everyone is Hong Kong is going to die because of this pneumonia thing. *phtt*) Well, now he won't get off my case for scanlating manga because he doesn't want me to go to jail and get sued. Ergh...and he won't get off my case until I get proof that I won't get sued, or that this isn't illegal. (er...is it?)

Anyone have any ideas? ^^***

Edit: GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH He just bloody came to yell at me AGAIN. He thinks I'm going to go to Jail. $#%^@%@#%#!$%!#$@$ ... help...

Check your email; I just sent you a ramble about why you won't go to jail; the Japanese companies actually *encourage* things that actually *make profit* out of other people's copyrighted characters, ala doujinshi and Comiket.

If you were charging for the scanslations it'd be different, but you're doing them for free and you're helping create a demand for a licensed copy of items that people who speak English wouldn't have any other way of learning about and you take things down when they do get licensed, so despite its gray status legally, I guarantee nobody's going to sue you...

...especially since they don't sue Son May and the companies that do complete duplicates of CDs and DVDs and sell them for a profit without having licensed them. @_@

I asked in another message board about the legal position of manga scans. A friend of mine says the same as Risu-Chan. Now I wait of the answer from a judge.
