Hey, I've got to be sure of these things.
Of course I've played DF.

BTW, I want to point out that, in my opinion the best game of all time, Football Manager, was created by an indie game developer in the UK. (It's also the world-wide best selling sports franchise of all time).
i'll probably get smacked for this, but I was suprised none of the mario games were on there. that's like a staple from the top lists i've seen. but i'm a consumer whore... And how!
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Mario influnced, what, exactly? There were platform games before and after Mario. Sure, we all had fun playing Mario games for NES and other systems. But was that because they were among the best games ever, or beacuse they were quality games with little competition and thus got our attention (See, as an example, Mario 64, which falls under this category).
We'd all admit that Tetris was a fun game, but it was no top 30.
On the toehr hand, if you finished that thread, you saw that I considered the Mario Brothers arcade game from the early 80s to be one of the best of its time, and it may have charted had the list been longer.

Okay, I misspoke. RTS is the term I accociate with any strategy game of a certain lot, real-time or turn-based. Civilization and the like fall under my heading for RTS even though they're not real-time. TBS?
I've only played 10/30 of those games, but they are all well deserving entries to that list. There are a lot of PC games there, but for good reason I think. So many console games are derivitive of what came before. I think the production values make it easier to copy than to innovate. PC seems easier to create a good game for on the cheap. There's a lot of interesting concepts that can be done easily and sometimes even free. There's alos a lot of RTS's on there which I'm not big into. They are good games but it boiled down to more of a PC list then anything
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">PC games are actually harder and more expencive to create than those for consoles. It mostly has to do with the fact that designing for a PC a developer needs to make the game playable for a vast majority of the audience. As far as consoles go they know EXACTLY what their limitations are and can completely avoid one of the most difficult parts of game design.Originally posted by kerbythepurplecow:
