You really really have to push it. I think the best bonus I've got for pushing is about 1500. Lives are inconsequential, they're only worth 25 points a piece. Losing a couple doesn't matter. Always make bosses dead, you need the gold. That's not where you want to lose lives.

Ya, those are pretty high scores.
Losing a dude for 25 points its still pretty steep. Sending a wave early gets you that much too. You really have to be perfect or near to it.
