Thermostat

My civic is acting up, if I sit to long it over heats but it wont blow hot air either, when the car is in motion temp gauge stays cool so the thermo must be stuck shut? right?

Sounds likely.

Sounds like low coolant.
The fluid in the heater core is the first place to lose it so it wouldn't have anything to generate heat from.
If it was the thermostat sticking shut I'd think you would have plenty of heat.

Nope, I do all the work on my car
i'll check the connections on the housing, oh yea one other thing that cable that ties in with the heat next to the thermostat kept popping off, I dont think it would of had any affect on it.. It has also been like 5 degrees at night so mabey that had something to do with it..

Do you run a high water content in your cooling system?

Or, maybe you have some hoses hooked up wrong...that is, if you've done anything to your cooling system lately.

I'll check my coolant at lunch but I dont think that could be the culprit, it was just changed about a month ago, I blead the coolant system so ther is no bubbles in the lines etc..I dunno I'll check it out at lunch..

Low coolant is usaully accompanied by a temp.gauge that does not stabilize.

I'd check the temp sensor connection which should be around the thermostat housing. The sender may be shot or the relay has gone south. Check fuses too.

Did this come out of the blue or did you recently have the car worked on ?

Thanks guy for the help, I checked everything over and I found that I guess when it gets cold at night the top hose on the radiator would leak a little coolant here and there..so I would put in some coolant thinking it would stay full but it would leak a tad.
