Conceptually, both units are the same, they both try to prevent detonation in a car with forced induction by retarding ignition timing relative to boost. The JR BTC has added functions four our s/c cars such as reduced timing between 3-4000 to help with tipin detonation and also addition of timing past 5000 I think, or somehwere around there. THe BTC is a much better unit for s/c users, but if you're turbo, don't even think about it. The quality of the BTC is also superb compared to the BTM, I've had both!!

The BTC also adds timing up top. The BTM is linear, the BTC is not.

Wouldnt adding timming up top create more detonation?
can anyone explain how exactly it works? i mean it soppose to retard timming accordinly to boost increase, but then it add timming up top? sounds contradciting.
any one please?

you're correct...it knocks off timing according to boost...but as was mentioned above...it's not linear....in other words it doesn't stick to this curve of retarding your timing. the BTC pulls some timing in the midrange and adds some at the top where we're all likely to be running richer than anywhere else on the band.
