Problem!

hey guys,

Ok here is my problem, I was out yesterday and one of my friends asked me to rev up my car so I did. I did, but I used the accelerater under the hood instead of in the car so i could here it too. Wish i had a pic but I dont, so i rev'ed it 2 good times. Well when I got back into the car, the speedometer wouldnt work and an engine light came on. I'm not a good mechanic but I looked all over the car and didnt see an leaks or problems. And it runs perfect, my dad looked at it and said it looked like a sensor went out for the engine light. But me and him are stuck on the speedo! Man I Need Help! I dont like driving without a speedometer. So if you can help i would really appreciate it.

well, the speedo is cable operated...so the cable must have either come out or broke somehow. check on the tranny where it goes in, and if not check the guage cluster to make sure it's plugged in.

as for the check engine light, check the ECU when you turn the key in the car to the on position....see how many times it blinks. If it's a slow single blink, it's the 02 sensor....try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and if it comes on again get a new 02 sensor.

Hey man, that's sounds like it sucks. It wasn't Craig was it? What he said sounds good to me. I dont' know what sensor it may be but those things are too expensive if you ask me. I'll probably stop by advance sometime this weekend, there's a tach there I'm interested in. I have no idea what kind of revs I'm running, my dad scared the crap out of me the other night when he was driving it.

Hey man normally when your speedometer does not work and a check engine light is on that means the speedometer cable probably just slipped out or it just broke. If it slipped out just pop it back in if it broke well have fun finding a cable.

well it seems like it broke. I got it all apart and checked the cable in the dash and I went down to where it stopped. There was a little oil or grease around the cable into the tranny I think. But I'm betting its broken, but where and how much would it cost to get a new one. It sounds like it is hard to get one, hope not though. Well if anyone can help me anymore I would appreciate it. Thanks for the help guys.
