Hello, I was reading through the CRX resource and saw a couple posts about guys throwing rods in them. What causes this? Is it just abuse? Id like to prevent this as much as possible! smile I love my ZC but they are getting old

We have an '84 AT Si Civic over here that is running over 205bhp NA with a ZC motor in full group A spec. It crucified every other car in its class but threw rods after it developed over 180bhp. With billet rods it was fine apparently.

Thats interesting. I heard the ZC's can handle up to 75 more horsepower before you need to beef up the internals. There was a guy a lil while ago that sent me some pics of his car. I think he was running a large turbo on it that pushed 100 hp or so. Needless to say he blew the hell out of it but ran low 13's! He said it actually lasted a while.

Heheh... that's turbocharged which doesn't really equate to high RPM although it does equal more stress on the motor.

The AT Si was making peak power @ 8500 rpm... that's all the time on a race track. Hence the fact that it was chewing up rods smile

Yeah.....I think if we stay with the minor mods that we have ex: I/H/E and the norm....combined with changing the oil and not abusing it ...I'd say the ZC engine should last as long as any other engine!!!

    :-)

    I am kicking around....Supercharging....

    what do you think?
