What is the benifit of resetting your ECU. And will it mess things up if i do it?

Only time I would reset the ECU is if you added intake or headers or exhaust or fixing a trouble code. What it will do is adjust the fuel mixture to the new bolt ons. It takes some time for the ECU to reprogram itself. You might notice it will run crappy for a 1/2 hour.

Since ive added an Intake and Exhaust I should reset my ECU? Will the ECU change itself to the new settings? and how long does it take 30 Minutes roughly?

Im sure its shorter then 30 mins. I would reset it if you did some bolt ons. My brothers 99 SI had the check engine light pop on after we put on the I/E/H until we reset the ECU. If the car runs fine then I would just leave it, if it runs ruff try resetting it

I reset mine two nights ago after I put on a new intake....and I noticed it didnt run rough for a few seconds when I cranked it back up.....I know I did it right. This probably means the new intake isnt much different then right?

So do you reset the ecu while the car is running or shut off? then when the ecu is reprogramming itself do you have your car running or turned off?

I recently read somewhere that after you reset your ecu you should drive the car pretty hard. It makes sense because if ecu is reprogramming itself as the car idles then it's not gonna *see* that you added an intake or header (or exhaust). You would want to drive it hard AS it's reprogramming itself so that it recognizes the different way things are flowing & adjusts the fuel accordingly.

If I find the site that said that I'll post it, but it was from a reputable shop - that much I remember. Too much damn B16 homework I can't remember all the sites I've been to these past couple weeks!!! LOL
