Before I go taking my seats apart....is there a way to seperate the top half of the seat from the bottom half? My driver's seat has had a tear in the corner right near your elbow where a lot of pressure is applied from people getting in and out. I see a lot of seats in this condition.
I was thinking i see a lot of seats like this on the internet and was wondering if I could just take a passenger side seat and take the top half off of it and transfer it to the driver's side seat??? I figure most passenger seats have very little wear but the seatbelt buckle and recliner handle would keep my plan from working...unless just the top portion can be swapped.

Or when Ann isn't looking I could swap the top of my seat with the passenger seat I allready have and see if she ever notices. Muahahahahaha [img]graemlins/devil.gif[/img]

I seem to remember that the butt pan is removable but the back is not. You would probably have to swap out the cover but I seem to remember that the back pan is integrated. Sorry, it has been a while since I've had the time to even sit in a Sol. [img]frown.gif[/img]

Yeah, their detachable. I took the head rest off the back, and unbolted the bottom from the back. The head rest is held on by two harp shaped pins. You'll have to unzip the seat backs a bit and reach up the sides kinda high up There is a couple bolts. Just undo those and presto, no sweat-o.

The seat pans as well as the seat backs are not interchangable. Sorry this has been discussed over the years. The foam pieces are molded around the frame pieces, so you just can't remove them and change one side for the other either.

I was hoping for a quick fix....my seat is still comfortable but that tear is so ugly. I keep seeing all these aftermarket seats for sale online but they would require the racing style seatbelts for them to work. Only way I see around that would be to get some buckles that mount to the floor instead of to the seat and would be able to use the current belts.
I've been keeping my eyes out for a set of S2000 seats but people want so much money for them. I guess I'll go the needle and thread route until something better pops up.

The problem is that on the belt buckle side, there is only one bolt and on the other side, there are two bolt holes so if you swap seat back from driver to passenger side, the bolt holes will not line up. You can either replace the seat with said S2000 seat which everyone wants to do and is probably the best alternative, or you can get seat covers. There are some high quality leathers on ebay, but i dont see it anymore. Or you can go the katskin route but those cost a lot too.

Its difficult to re-upolster the seat yourself cause the fabric is glued to the foam underneath so unless your a pro (Geo) it will be difficult to replace.

You can get aftermarket seats but i think the hardest part is getting the seat brackets...i dont think the seat belt buckle is too difficult causeyou can just bolt it to the metal seat frame. Only sparco makes sliding seat rails/brackets for the sol and getting custom ones are pricey unless you know how to weld...

I have seen those leather covers you're talking about on ebay....they do look nice. Or people have been saying that GSR or RSX seats look good as well.

I know someone that might be able to get me into one of those wrecked car auctions that are supposed to be for dealers only. I'd love to find something cheap just for the seats and then part the rest of it out.

What color, year, and type of seat you have? I have a stock seat, but have been thinking of getting a racing seat for my autocross, that has those holes for harnesses. Mine are red stripe, no holes, or tears. What you looking to pay? What could you pay? I don't have much to make up the difference to get a seat, and rails. I have to check into it. Right now, it's just a thought.

I have the stock seats with the red stripe too. I haven't given much thought to price. Still not sure if I want to stay with Del Sol seats or upgrade to something fancier like S2000 seats.

I recently in AutoAdventure in Portland. They had 3 pair of sol seats. No rips I remember. You can check them out, and possibly get a good price on them since they have a lot. plus they have others too. go to Autoadventure.com give em a call and see what you can bargain with them.
