Wonderboy

I think we never talked about the Wonderboy games. Anyone fan of them here?

I like the RPGesque ones (i.e. original Wonderboy in Monster World (SMS and arcade), WonderBoy 3 (SMS and TG16), 5 (SMS and MD) and 6 (MD)). I've finished all of them.

I liked WB5 most. It had a nice RPGish environment, items, secrets, etc. Pretty nice stages, especially the ice one. Nice music as well. It was long for its age, especially if you hadn't played it; now I can beat it in a couple hours as I'm rather good at it; I miss the good old times when I sucked at it so it would take me days, and I enjoyed it much better. I didn't know English either so I wouldn't have a clue of what to do and I would revisit all stages just in case.

WB6 (MonsterWorld 4) was not released outside Japan (they must've thought gayjins don't deserve it), but a cool translation group did the job for us. You play as a girl for the first time in the WB games, and graphics and animation have been majorly improved. Gameplay has been improved as well, having a more useful assistant. Too bad it has only one town and didn't retain the magic of WB5, it had the potential of being much better.

So, what's your experience in the Wonderboy world? Wouldn't you want a 3D WB with today's technology and the WB5 game style?

Ya know I've seen them and the games but I've never owned one . . . so I can't say much about em :/

They are nice platform/RPG hybrids, you might want to try them in an emulator if you like oldschool gaming, I don't think anybody will care for them; neither these games nor the consoles they run on can be bought anywhere now.

Well, i never played Wonderboy. I get the feeling i missed out, but i'll try find it on an emulator.
