Stranded

[Bad Turkey]

No one knew his name, and no one cared to know his name. He was a cleaner, they were 1st class. The fact that they were stranded inside a life boat together was irrelevant, they believed themselves to be better because they had money and he didn't have money. They were rich and he was poor. They looked upon him as if he was the excretion that one would have the occasional misfortune to step into. It was known that the cleaner was a Turk, so in a upper class type of humour they referred to him as "Turkey".

Turkey drank from the water bottle. As the refreshing liquid touched his tongue he could feel the energy returning to his body.
The other people aboard or snobs rather glared at him in disgust, like he didn't deserve to be drinking water.
He didn't care what they thought, he was glad to be alive, unlike them, they took everything for granted, even their life.
Turkey finished his beverage and then suddenly his eyes widened, he saw something in the horizon, land it looked to be.

"Shit, is that what I think it is?
Quick, pick up the oars and start paddling you worthless pieces of..."

Turkey didn't finish his sentence, he had forgotten his place, he was only a lowly cleaner.

Frost stood in the lamp room of the lighthouse, and glared out across the ocean.
The waves crashed angrily into the bay, they never rolled, they fell about each other like dogs fighting for meat.
The rocks in the bay were sharp, hard, and deadly.Too many wrecks littered the sea bed here.
Too many lives were scattered to the waves.

On the horizon appeared a black speck. Frost slowly, almost wearily clawed for the spyglass, not taking his eyes off the object.
Carefully adjusting the tool, he peered out across the grey water.

A lifeboat.

More lives had been lost, he surmised. But more could be saved. He reached for the button controlling the foghorn, and pressed it hard.
The loud blast pounded across the bay.
