Call redirected to the South Auckland Police Station at 2:23 PM.
"Hello? I'm across the road from the Bank Street ASB, I just saw a car stop outside. I think I saw a gun."

--This is Dispatch to units in South Auckland area. We have a civilian report of an armed suspect entering the Bank Street ASB Bank. Requesting an officer to investigate.--

Chris's radio barked out a short, simple order. He was a couple of blocks away, so he answered.

"This is Sergeant Chris Wesley, officer 8558. I'm in the area, over on Wells. Heading there now."

    --Roger that, 8558.--

Chris turned his patrol car around and headed for the bank.

As the squad car drove past towards the bank, a man standing by the side of the road hit the 'Send' key on his Nokia 3660.

A second phone call, soon after the first, was routed to the police.
"This is ASB Bank street, we have an armed robber - this is the bank manager - we have one armed man, European, asking for money from the tills. White shirt, blue jeans. Around 23..."

As the first police car arrived, a man in blue jeans was calmly walking from the bank's entry. He climbed into his Toyota Camry, parked directly outside the bank with the engine running. Then he fired once towards the police car, and started speeding East down Bank Street.

Chris rounded the corner as another message came through his radio.

--Dispatch to all available units, we have a robbery in progress at Bank Street ASB. Suspect is a white male approximately 23 years old, wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt. Suspect is armed, repeat, suspect is armed with a pistol.--

He saw a man matching the description running out of the bank on his left. The man raised a gun and fired a shot, which went high, and smashed a window of an office building across the road. He then jumped into his car, and sped off.

"This is Sergeant Chris Wesley, officer 8558. Currently on bank street, in pursuit of suspect driving a silver Toyota Camry, license plate TX-9843"

Chris turned his siren and lights on, and drove after him. The traffic was heavy, but Chris was an expert driver in a much better car. The guy didn't have a chance of escaping.

Detective Frost turned into the intersection, a box of doughnuts sitting on his passenger seat. He had been reassigned to this area and wasn't too familiar with the streets yet. He had been pretty sure there wasn't a Bank Street in South Auckland, but, apparently he had been wrong.

Suddenly a car came speeding through the intersection. It was a Toyota Camry! How had he recognized that? He didn't know anything about cars..

Never mind, he was already turning out after it, lights on,... uh, oh, another car.. cop car...

    CRunCH!*

    Damn.

The driver braked suddenly, his car scraping sideways before stopping. The man kicked his door open and sprung out, running onto the curb and towards a door. He glanced back at the police cars behind him, no longer calm as he pounded the locked door with his fist.
    "Open the damn door!"

It was an old building, peeling green paint and mould. The door was a wooden one. Two windows, around a metre across, had 'Closing down sale" sprayed onto them in messy white, while less legible graffiti had since been applied from the outside.

The door didn't open, and the man turned back to look along the street.

Chris sped after the fleeing Camry. He didn't have to go far before he got into problems. As he sped through an intersection, sadly without looking too hard, a police car appeared on his left, pulling out into the intersection, running a red light, and clearly oblivious to the loud sirens that were audible from several blocks away.

Chris swerved to miss it, thankful that his car was moving fast enough and had good traction. However, less than a second after he had passed the moronic cop, he heard a loud CRunCH!* coming from behind him.

    Shit.

The Camry, now a good 200 metres ahead of him, seemed to be getting away. Chris slowed down, thinking he should probably check to see what had happened, and make sure nobody was injured in the crash. Someone else would have to get the crook.

He got out and surveyed the crash. It was only a small one, thankfully. Nobody was badly injured, thankfully, just a couple of drivers who hadn't been watching the roads. Chris got back into his car, and reached for the radio.

"This is This is Sergeant Chris Wesley, officer 8558. Requesting assistance with a vehicle accident on the Upper Bank Street intersection. No casualties. There's another officer at the scene (Chris grinned to himself), he can take charge. Currently in pursuit of Armed Suspect."

--Copy that, 8558. Proceed with caution.--

He looked ahead. The Camry had disappeared. Fuck. He drove off anyway, hoping it hadn't gone far. His prayers paid off. There, on the side of the road, only about 300 metres away from the intersection, was the bastard's car, the door still wide open - and just up the road from the car was the bastard himself, no longer holding his gun. He seemed to be having trouble with the door to some run-down apartment.

Chris unlocked the gun case in the car, took his pistol, and stepped out of his car.

"You! By the Door! Get down on the ground, and put your hands on your head!"

The criminal knew he'd lost. He crouched to the ground, swearing.
"Shit, they set me up. Shit!"

He made no attempt to resist the officer.

Detective Frost got out of his car, angry as his doughnuts were spilled on the floor. Never mind, they were still good, he supposed.

Since the other cop had buggered off he supposed it was up to him to mess around with this menial traffic collision.

'SWEET!' he thought. How did he ever manage to sidestep chasing an armed gunman?

He wandered over to the driver of one of the damaged cars to begin the (much easier than chasing armed criminals) routine of taking statements.

    Boy, was he lazy.
