Talking

The game, from what you all told me, was a success. The characters spent the day reconoitering Devonshire and running minor errands.

Stythel gave each of the 8 characters 2 of the 20 sapphires (worth 1,000 each) in case anyone wanted to shop. Temples were visited, donations made and the goings on of the Red Cloaks, townsfolk and Thieves Guild were subtley evident. While Gwylln attempted entry into the Mage Guild, held fast against her, Einkil was discovering details on a ring that had appeared mysteriously in his pouch. While Stranng was off getting antsy feelings from his bear, Jaskyn and Lynliss were out preaching. And while Garrick was praying to Tor for success in battle and the safety of his comrades, Merilin was watching town guardsmen warning citizens and Red Cloaks were running off on wild goose chases.

The battle itself was a success, and while mostly a one sided victory, was not a cake walk. Certainly the three summoned creatures kept the damage coming and the men distracted while the dwarven cleave-o-matic culled the herd. But Einkil probably took enough damage to kill 2 other characters and the surprise attack from the rear wasn't the height of stealth operations. Gwylln's spells kept fizzling and Garrick missed most of the time. Those that did hit, weren't doing all that much damage. But in the end, the treamwork played out like a finely tuned instrument, and you came away with a dead Justin, 14 Scarlet Cloaks dead or bleeding to death, and 2 men captured.

I envision this adventure to have several pivotal points, and you have just completed a key one. Those present last night came away with 3,000 xp, and Jaskyn, Merilin and Gwylln have gained a level.

The scene has been frozen. We can pick up next time with the looting of bodies, planning of the next step and dealing with the two prisoners. You may even discuss it here. But this adventure will not continue next week, as we move back to the Caer Falken Inn.

Destruction is a two-bitted axe, to be sure. Granted, impulsive barbarians are instrumental in raining death upon one's enemies, but the price is that impulsive barbarians will take action if no one comes up with a better idea. I'm quite pleased how we've come together on strategy and tactics - not only does it keep the frothing dwarf from doing something that will inevitably kill him one of these days, it makes the game move faster. Thanks to all for bringing this to a new level!

    Not all Gwylln's magic fizzled.

A magic missile aimed at the fleeing Scarlet near the end of the battle was the major fizzle, another was the result of a successful save. (She tried to Charm one of the four outside to fight for us.)

She successfully Held one to keep him from aiding his comrades.

Anyway, after the looting of the bodies and the Inn, we should probably escort the two survivors to Lt. Wayne for safekeeping.

The big question is whether to move against the castle with Wayne and company to deal with the Count himself, or take our chances with the school and dragon? As the DM indicated, we may not get a chance to rest again until this adventure is over with, and we start back to Hrothgar in Talagon City.

My personal inclination is to go ahead and take down the Count, or expose him. That we are doing so with full authority from High King Hrothgar, of which we did not inform Lt. Wayne about, will gain the support of the truly Lawful, since the King is the supreme Law.

Yes, last night was most enjoyable (And thank goodness for Barbaric Damage sponges). Good Game

Yeah! Jaskyn went up a level. Power...mwhahaha... I mean, the roleplaying is it's own reward.
