So much for Hardaway's ringless career. The Mavs gambling with their chemistry by adding Nick at Nite.

    Al?

If you ever needed any clearer insight into Nick Van Exel consider what Denver was willing to do just to be rid of Nick:

-Denver just let go of the guy who might be their best player, a guy who's also young and who has his best years ahead of him, Raef LaFrentz.

-Denver just took on a rickity, somewhat mouthy and thoroughly washed up Tim Hardaway.

-Denver just took on Juwan Howard's obscene contract, and....Juwan Howard.

This might be the best example ever of a lose-lose deal, where both teams are hurt by a trade. While Dallas is happy to be rid of Howard's contract (assuming they're not still responsible for some portion of it?) and they'll find good use for LaFrentz just imagine the happy happy joy joy feeling that Nick will bring to that team as his accustomed minutes are all given to Nash....

Dallas got younger at both positions and saved money at the four spot.

For the cost, I can't see taking Nick as a backup for Nash. His history of not distributing the ball is known. If he is in the Conference finals against the Lakers, he presents an intriguing small point gaurd match against Fisher. But he is certainly not a significant improvement over Hardaway. Nick is actually more of a liability against big gaurds. He is a post-up waiting to happen.

There was a rumor that the Wizards would deal #1 pick Kwame Brown for Charles Oakley. Why deal the #1 pick in the draft for a 38 year old washed up player like Oakley? The Wizards have done some really dumb things in the past like trading CWebb for Mitch Richmond and giving Juwan Howard a pile of cash. Hopefully they can snag a playoff spot for just the second time since 1988 (sad)

PS- I never really gave a fuck about the Wizards/Bullets for the longest time because they flat out sucked shit since 1984.

Index, if you don't think Dallas acquired Van Exel to back up Nash then what do you think they're going to do with him?

He's not a two. He's only a point guard, and there's no way in hell he plays above Nash. Nash is probably second only to Payton in the West and Iverson (sort of a one) and Kidd in the entire league in terms of ones. Nash is young, he's an all star and supposedly his teammates and the franchise love him.

Maybe you're suggesting they traded for Nick with the intention of turning around and trading him again themselves?
