the best thing about Branyan is that he was the only guy to get in Lofton's face about forcing his choice of music on everyone else.

It's time to face facts (and stats) that Fryman is not healthy. Two singles in 32 AB's just about seals the deal. It's time to move Branyan back to 3b and let him get acclimated before the season starts.
Somebody needs to tell Fryman it's over because he seems to be incapable of admitting that he can not play to MLB standards. Last thing we need is the same limp bat we saw from Fryman in the second half last year.
It's really kind of sad because Fryman was a great player. If he had gone ahead with his elbow (Tommy John) surgery last year when diagnosed he would probably would have been close to 100% by June. Fryman has done neither himself or the team any favors by refusing to have the elbow surgery. Now it looks like he simply can not play.

So based on you're statement, anybody that goes 2 for 34 should retire? There is no possibility he's just in a slump correct? It doesn't matter that he is making all the plays and throws defensively, correct?

I'm worried about his production also, however it's just doesn't make any sense to assume it means he's through. We're not even half way through spring training and everybody is making assumptions already.

There's no reason to panic. Even if Fryman is done, 3rd base is covered. They have several options: Branyan, Snyder, Cordero, Cabrera, Lansing, among others.

No need to make a trade out of desperation. Those are the worst kind of trades.

The problem is that Fryman's tenacity leads to his mendacity. eek

Look at branyan's stats before and after an unhealthy Fryman displaced him.

Convential wisdom seems to be that Branyan needs to play every day and stay in the groove. Only then will we see what he can do. It's possible (but I agree not certain) that he can become a *cheap* 270-40HR-90RBI hitter. After everyone else that's been traded away they can't afford to give up on this kid without him playing a full season. Especially this season where contending will be difficult and bringing forward younger players will be vital.

It's a real shame that Escobar will not be able to make use of this development season as he could take LF with Branyan at 3B.

Snyder can NOT play 3rd. He's barely adequate defensively at 1b. Cordero can NOT play 3rd anymore. His days as an infielder are LONG behind him. Cabreara and Lansing if starting at 3rd would be the worst 3b in the AL (yes, even worse than Russ Johnson at Tampa Bay). Among others?? Who would that be?? They will only be WORSE options than those quoted above. The ONLY option is Branyan.

I would like to "toast" Fryman's first homer of the spring, may there be many more.

Does Fryman flinch in pain when he swings hard?

What a shock! Now we hear Fryman is having a little 'twinge' in his surgically repaired shoulder. Fryman has already shown he is incapable of admitting when he can't play and Chollie is incapable of telling him he can't play. Fryman is hurt and Branyan needs to be playing 3b....NOW!

Rushing Fryman back last year, with the knowledge he was not 100%, nor would he be, was a bad move....If Fryman had committed to the proper surgery last April, he might actually have been back in time for the stretch drive, and Branyan would have gotten time to develop... Now the earliest Fryman can come back is probably is the end of next season.

Try this. Too much trouble to find the original PD quote.
