In today's PD, the article on Fryman listed his various ailments and his probable retirement at the end of the season. But it included this:

"Fryman wanted to tell Manuel something else. "I wanted him to be comfortable with the notion that if he wanted to do something in the middle of the season involving me, he should do it," Fryman said."

What could "something" be? A Trade? Nobody would want him. 60-day DL? Now we're talking. If he is insured, we save around $3mil, and can give LaRocca or Snyder a chance at 3rd. As *TR said before the season, "Fryman is toast". No sense wasting roster space and at-bats on him any longer. [img]graemlins/idea.gif[/img]

What exactly are his various ailments?

Indeed, Travis had a remarkably consistent and quite productive career up until last year. HOF trajectory? Nah. The HOF standards haven't quite slipped that much yet.

Of note is that MBL.com compares his career to that of Kenny Keltner. Their stats really are similar, right down to the fact that Kenny's skills rapidly diminished at the age of 32.

Didn't Keltner collide with someone on the bases and suffer an injury from which he never fully recovered?

A little X-files there?

The problem with the internet is when you compare things, you can't compare where someone was a month ago, or 6 months ago, or 2 years ago. Travis was heading back on the fast track after his .323 BA in the 2000 season.

In the last 4 years, (99-2002) Travis now has 3 HORRIBLE years..

But if you could see who Travis matches up with IMMEDIATELY after his 2000 season, you would see very talented players.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I seem to remember Travis Fryman being a perennial all-star with Detroit. Something like 7 years in a row?

If he had never been injured in 1999, or after coming back with a terrific 2000 year had not reinjured himself in 2001, he might have had a hall of fame career.
