Following are the 7 players that have signed with Humboldt thus far listed in no particular order. I still think we need a big man to defend the post...

    1. Zac Tiedeman was recruited aggressively by the Lumberjacks two years ago before he opted to attend Santa Rosa JC and move on to Santa Clara. Following a coaching change at that university, Tiedeman reconsidered the HSU program, and will come aboard this fall as a junior.

"Zac will be a premiere guard in the CCAA," Wood said. "He's a true on-floor leader who makes winning decisions and doesn't turn the ball over."

Tiedeman had worked himself into a starting role at Santa Clara as a sophomore before suffering an injury. Most impressive among his stats was his 6.3 assists to turnover ratio. As a freshman at Santa Rosa JC, Tiedeman averaged 12 points and 6.5 assists per game.

    2. David Howard was selected by San Diego area coaches as the 2007-08 Coastal South League Player of the Year. Scoring 17.7 points per game and grabbing 9.1 rebounds per outing, Howard helped Army-Navy advance to the CIF Southern California Regional Division IV basketball quarterfinals.

The 6-7 post helped his team finish its season with a 21-5 overall record. In the Warriors’ final game, Howard contributed a team-high 23 points.

“I like that David can catch the ball and create shots for others, he can put the ball on the floor and create shots for himself, and he can pull up and hit a jumper,” Wood said. “He’s a complete player, and we feel fortunate to bring a young man with his athleticism and skill package into our program.”

    ----------------------------------

    3. Kyle Baxter joins HSU’s program after completing his high school career at El Camino, where he averaged 13.5 points and just over eight rebounds per game this year. The 6-7 forward gained a reputation as a big game player who elevated to the task in critical situations.

One particularly notable performance was Baxter’s 27-point effort that lifted El Camino to victory in the Sac-Joaquin Division III championship game. The impressive run continued into the second round of the NorCal Championships, and Baxter was rewarded with selection to the Cal-Hi Sports All-State team. Kyle was also named to the Sacramento Bee's All-Metro First Team.

“At 6-7, Kyle Baxter is an unbelievably versatile player,” Wood said. “He can play every position on the floor, from point guard to power forward. He’s a capable scorer who can also help his teammates get opportunities. He has a tremendous upside.”

    ----------------------------------

    4. Keith Davis is a 6-3 guard who averaged 17.6 points and 10.4 rebounds per game for Long Beach Jordan. Following his senior season, Davis was an all-conference first-team selection in the Moore League, widely considered one of the top high school leagues in the nation.

"Keith is a versatile player who can play both the small and power forward positions," Wood said. "He has perimeter skills, and can defend bigger or quick players."

    ----------------------------------

    5. Elliot Babcock-Krenk starred for Lake Oswego High School, where he earned first team all-Three Rivers League honors his senior season. In 2007, Babcock-Krenk was a major contributor to the Oregon Class 6A champions, playing alongside current Lumberjack Ernie Spada and UCLA freshman star Kevin Love.

The 6-2 combo guard helped Lake Oswego continue its winning ways this year, averaging 15.8 points per game and guiding his team to a 21-5 record and the second round of the state championship tournament. He also averaged two steals a game, and was selected as an Oregon Coaches Athletic Association/Gatorade All-Star.

“(Babock-Krenk) is a very tough-minded defender, and that sets him apart,” Wood said. “He’s a versatile player on offense, who can get to the rim and also has good range. He’s played on the highest level of championship teams and performed well.”

    ----------------------------------

    6. At 6-4, Jose Perez is a player who can fit in either of the forward positions, and was an all-CIF Southern Section second team selection this year. His averages of 13.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game helped the Centennial Huskers achieve a 27-5 record and win the Mountain View League.

"Everyone we've talked to tells us about how hard (Perez) plays and how competitive he is," Wood said. "He's the kind of player who is tough to go up against."

    ----------------------------------

    7. David Broome, who played with HSU redshirt freshman Will Petty at Castro Valley two years ago, is a 5-5 guard who led his team to a 24-4 record. Following the season he was selected as co-MVP of the Hayward Area Athletic League.

"(Broome) is an interesting player," Wood said. "He causes opponents problems with his quickness and ball-handling skills."

    -------------------------------------
Brandon Sperling, Clovis Buchanan's "Mr. All-Around," has de-committed to Humboldt State.

IF Humboldt State refused to release him, he would have to sit out a year. However, he has been released. It's hard to say exactly why he changed his mind so late, but the whole point of signing is to COMMIT, which allows coaches to move on with their planning and budget. The HSU staff is in a tough position at a late time, but has been working hard to fill the void. Stay tuned.
