Z, I don't agree, because money spent now to set up contracts and advertising will repay itself many times over in the future. If teams spend all their money now on a coach for an indeterminate period before the season starts, they'll be behind the eight ball in fame, merchandise, concessions and stadium.
Plus I can't imagine why somebody who'd traded all his money away might want his competitors to also drain their finances right now

I can see that Z'ster, but I don't see why a bidding war on coaches is such a bad thing. If people want to pay ridiculous prices then let them.
I'm with Stumps here. Lets just put them all up for grabs after/towards the end of the draft. Anything other than that is going to be logistical nightmare and could end up disadvantaging some GMs who don't have constant everyday internet access throughout an extended auction/bidding process. Drafting through this messageboard is proving to be a nightmare. I'd hate to think what auctioning coaches would be like.

the good thing about this method is you dont have to have everyday access to bid on teh coach you want, but if you want to bid on more than 1 then you need to be able to access your team smoetime between the coaches you want hitting waivers

So to get the best out of it you have to be aware of whats happening everyday...

its more a way of being able to bid on more than one coach, but its not really to allow you to bid on EVERY coach, so just pick the few you want to bid on and its all good

I like forcing people to only bid on one coach per day. It's more strategic. Do you go all out on one of the popular ones or do you try to sneak a middle-of-the-road guy at a bargain price?

I don't like the idea of one coach per day - it will make the middle of the road guys more expensive - Let them all go at the same time

What about a silent auction? Get a neutral person outside the league to sort through the bids. Towwb volunteered if everyone trusts him enough. Basically set a deadline for everyone to place their bids. They can place as many bids as they want and sort them in order of preference. Then after that deadline, it can be revealed how many coaches were bid on, then set 1 new deadline for people to up their bid if they see there is a lot of interest, or place a new bid where there isnt much interest. Any thoughts?

no, it would be a silent auction. you'd just know how many bids there were. would be just like how it's set up now in the game, but you could do multiple bids as insurrance, and of course wont get the coach right away and start paying for him
