<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Depends on the driver and/or desired power handling capability, i.e. the later drivers don't load it nearly as well all the way down as the older 800 series drivers, so can sound harsh and potentially bottom out. It's the price paid to increase its HF BW, power handling. Not many 'free lunches' in audio speaker design. Also, a higher XO point is an easy (read 'cheap') way to reduce its inherent CD horn 'honk'.Quote:

What does this mean about China? Some manufacturing there ?
Electrifying news for the Lansing name? JBL bought by Bosch (makes spark plugs) and Altec by Spark-o-matic. Is there a hidden meaning here?
The 311-90 horns (291 Symbiotic driver) XO's at 500 Hz in the A10 (1975) for similar reasons.
Harmon is closing down the plant in Northridge according to recent news. They are already making some stuff in their Mexico plant and intend to send QC folks down to get the plant set up to build the pro line soup to nuts. This news came from another forum last week and was intentionally leaked by folks near the decision making process. What that means is anybody's guess. Worked for Leo Fender, should work for JBL. Land, taxes and wages are too high in Northridge apparently. I don't know about the rest of you but my state income tax went up last year by 2/3. I now have to make estimated tax payments in spite of no increase in income. I am seasonal in Nevada but perminant in California because of the no health insurance across state lines horsefeathers. Falls under the category of don't get me started.
Anyway, the Mexico connection is RUMOR, at this point. Not fact. The closure of the Northridge plant is fact. That is, unless they change their minds......
Pretty cool Tommy. :)
It seems the Altec Lansing name is up For Sale yet again ...... :rolleyes2:
Would be awesome if Bill could snatch it up.
