I have some 511-E's. If there are some specific questions which could be answered with reference to the thing itself, I would be glad to try and help.

Hi, David,
Thanks for the offer! I think the mouth dimensions and overall length would cover it so we could put it to bed. If your excellent pics are still up, this would be a great place for a link.
BTW, you still have any extras? Reason I ask, is I had an unexpected windfall Monday night in an Ok. casino...it involved a double-breasted hula girl with a mic. I might make allowances for my old definition of reasonable.

Was this pic the reason for the scene you mentioned earlier?

Nah, that scene was 27 years ago, the picture last Monday. The '80 spat started as one of those "you spend more time with that *** guitar then you spend with me" things.

Greets!
So yours are like the short black one in the auction? If so, how do you know they are 511Es beyond accepting a large format driver? I mean are they tagged from the factory as such, or on the invoice, carton, or......?
TIA,
GM

Here's a thread in the other Lansing forum with some photos.

OK, good to know. This means that there's at least two different 511E models, an apparently interim re-tagged 31189 (chopped up 511B) as used in the 9848 and what appears to be a later, more properly designed version that theoretically (based on the auction's pics) is the superior performing of the two at least WRT low end output, though without measurements YMMV.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well it's either knowledge or guesswork. I've seen no evidence that the lighter gray horn in the auction is a factory 511E. The apparent difference in the size of the horn mouth is easily attributable to the wide angle lense that is used to take the photos at different angles and distances relative to the horns. To me it's dampening coat looks uneven. It's mounting plate looks like it has been welded onto a 511 throat that has not been shortened but has simply had the original flange removed. The flange we see with the fourth hole may have been taken from the adaptor throat mentioned in a post above. It's hard to see in thephoto, but the opening into the throat of that horn does not really seem to look into an expanding angle. zIt even looks a little like there is an inner ring smaller than the flange opening.
The darker gray horn seems to be about the same color as the factory ones I have and is similar in other details. The other looks like a hack job done by an amateur.
