came home from work today to find one of my cats curled up in one of my 515e's...was a mint speaker..now a severly dented dust cap. anyone have any luck with a vacumn, pulling out the cap again. the cats not dead, but it is scared as... aint seen it in hours now, probably a good thing. just where does one draw the line between a good mouser and another hole in the yard..grrr

Personally, I don't think it will hurt anything, it probably just looks nasty.

Get a new dust cap from GPA, soak the old one off very carefully with MEK and Qtips.

And for cripes' sake store those gems face down or stacked face to face!

I'm not the biggest fan of cats, but i know them well enough to know they like things shaped like a basket or a bowl to curl up in for a good snooze.

Cats also have good taste, if you'd had a Jensen and a Utah available, i can just about guarantee the cat would still have picked the Altec, every time.

Haven't tried it on the paper domes- but on metal, gently rubbing duct tape onto the wound and a quick yank off usually does it.
I had an experience with my Seal Point , she decided my brand new Beyma 18" ($289 plus shipping) made a wonderful bed.

Poor kitty was so scared I think she only has 8 lives left.

I would be tempted to leave it alone. I don't think the shape of the dust cover makes much difference in sound quality. Might do more harm in trying to right it.

If your going to try the tape trick, which actually does work, I got some " Gorilla Tape " from parts express. It is very sticky, and has good adhesive grip, more than regular tape.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Man when I was building my speakers, my 414s arrive way ahead of time. I was so concerned about dropping something on or damaging the cones, that just left them in the factory box with foam and I tape the box closed.
