Loud is Beautiful if it's Clean! As always though, the usual disclaimers apply to this post's contents.
I could not disagree more.
The line array is simply the "flavor of the month".
It will fall out of fashion, and everyone will say "line arrays aren't any good any more" just like they said it about multicells.
The plain and simple truth is there is still a lot of room for improvement in speakers. I have no idea why all the raving about arrays- they simply are no better than many other solutions, sometimes not as good.
As far as rear loaded mid-bass horns- very few of those have ever been in use- most mid bass horns are front loaded. So why bring up something that was never popular?
The front loading horn STILL has lots of applications. Including many where it will out perform arrays.
Line arrays often do not work as well as horn systems outdoors.
Your neighbors called. They like your music.
Sorry Old Guy I ment front loaded.

OG, On understanding women.....
.......fundamentally, men value LOYALTY, women value SECURITY. Have you read any works by Charles Bukowski?
Cheers.
Way back...I remember Post Office, the other titles escape me at the moment...
I wish it was just as simple as security though...redheads are just plain irrational...
BTW she doesn't know what nym I post under and where, prolly good for my survival....
Edit- those interested in arrays may find this page interesting...

This thread was started in 2009. Things have changed since. Evry sound company practically has only line arrays system.
Even if you want a small PA system they will suggest 6 box of line array 3 on each side. I was walking on the street the other day and the music sounded like Altec 604 with EQ. I got near the stage and it was JBL VERTEC 12" line arrays in groups of 8.
They sound just as if only one speaker was playing. One wave pattern just as advertized. They were playing at about 30 DB which is low but the sound was clean considering they were playing MP3's.
The one wave pattern is what makes this system strenght.
Aren't these systems(the good ones) also the result of processing(DSP) that is as "cutting edge" as the loudspeaker technology? The one wave pattern is what makes this system strenght.
Not all vegetables make good leaders.
