Altec N1500-8A - Absolutely mint NOS - eBay (item 120632304227 end time Oct-15-10 06:16:31 PDT)

    Never seen these before.

Were they from the shortlived Al Pro?

I assume they are 604 units???

Altec Lansing Professional sold that crossover with the 604-8L. Steve at Great Plains helped develop it and it sounds incredible.

These were developed and sold after Altec was shut down, and Sparkomatic became Altec Lansing Technologies, correct? So they're 10 years old at the most, right?

Sparkomatic leased the Altec Lansing name in 1988 to sell upscale home hi-fi and car stereo. They were so successful that Sparkomatic changed its name to "Altec Lansing Technologies, Inc" (ALTI). Some say ALTI started the computer speaker industry around 1990. It doesn't matter, they made a huge business from computer speakers and discontinued home and car stuff.

After a couple of corporate buy-outs, Telex sold the original Altec Lansing name to ALTI. Wwith the help of some original Altec Lansing guys in Oklahoma City, ALTI started a new division in the early 2000's; Altec Lansing Professional. The crossover that started this thread was developed around 2004 making it about 6 years old.

Regardless of the pedigree of the N1500-8A, it is still a very good 604 crossover. I would love to have a pair!

I almost wonder if I should buy these. Have a pair of 604-8K that won't sell. Everyone wants to know "do you have the crossovers?"

I thought it was earlier than that. Didn't Altec get out of the home market in 83-ish? Was there a gap where no home or car audio was produced?

It may be a nice crossover, but it confirms what I told the seller....... it's not vintage.
