I am going to replace the caps in my 501-8a's. Are radio Shack components decent enough quality? If not where do you guys go for stuff?




Does anyone supply a cd of tones? Something I can put in my Bluray to generate freq's to see how low my system will reach, the cross over freq and how high a freq I can hear anymore. Or is there another method with out spending a ton of money as it's not something I'll be using all the time.



In the CO's is there one particular component that regulates the CO point or is it the entire circut? Point being that if that's the case I was thinking I might be able to mod the 501's to CO at 800 or 1200?




Is there such a thing as a CO with an adjustable CO freq? Where one could "turn a knob" to vary it to suit?




Currently using a Marantz 1060 amp. I gather it's not the greatest, although it seems alright to me. Just for laughs is there an amp/preamp that would be more compatible with my stuff and deliver better and more realistic sound? I hate asking this question as it makes me sound like a "poser" but I'm just trying to learn




FWIW I'm now a level 5 member if that means anything.

Use Solen's or Daytons they are inexpensive and of Good quality.They are an absolute PIA to get them in there though as the 28 uF caps are rather large and 2 required.

With or inlieu of the CD, you could pursue a tone generator. I have 2, here is the currently available one by Tenma:

Looks like they have a non-portable one as well, spec. to audio FR. (20hz->20khz), same price.

May get more millage out of something like this in the long run.

IIRC, others have utilized a tone generator program for the PC, and the soundcard output.
