I would be willing to bet a c-note that's WAY off.

A year or two earlier a pair of A-7 was about 650 dealer.

I would suspect at their introduction probably 2-ish list, some dealers may have gone as much as 30% off that. Alnico spiked due to the cobalt shortage, they may well have then gone to the 2500 list mentioned.

All this is nothing but an educated guess. I never sold Altec Hi-Fi only Pro.

    Re: M19's

There's a pretty clear photo of an original sales receipt for a brand new pair of Model 19's purchased in 1979 in this ebay listing from Australia--enlarge the seventh photo (I love the search feature of our forum--I remembered a joke I made in a thread here about the original receipt being enough for Sparkomatic to honor the warranty, so I did a search for "Sparkomatic warranty" and the thread popped right up). It shows the buyer paid $2300 in Australian Dollars for a pair. Today an Australian dollar is worth $1.05 USD--not sure what the exchange rate was back then but I think this verifies that most of the estimates posted in this thread are at least in the ballpark. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ALTEC-Lansing...-/130494350084

The dollar was worth quite a bit more back then. The American dollar was the standard, not the Euro as is now.

Add in shipping, I suspect that translates to about 1500-1600 US.

I don't want to hear anything about the Euro here please, everybody in the rich countries in Western Europe hates that currency, it's terrible, the only thing we want back is the Dutch Guilder or the D-Mark. Sorry

The cheapest Mercedes C 200 CDI costs in Euros now about 40.000 euros that's about $56000.

Next year I'm a poor man I think, it's terrible.

Gee, maybe you'll have to start being concerned with cost of items you buy.

    56,000 for a Mercedes....it's only money.

Actually, it's ALL debt............. in the USA. We have no "standard" on which our currency is based, and 9 out of 10 Americans don't have a clue where money comes from or how it's created literally out of thin air by a few select folks in the very private sector. That's why they're able keep printing more and more, effectively driving the value of the dollar further down. The dollar is losing it's place globally, and those folks in this country who don't "get it" and are not preparing, are going to have a painfully rude awakening in the not too distant future.

One example, when the countries we buy our oil from are no longer willing to accept dollars for oil(and this is going to happen) you will see petroleum prices in the US come up to par with the rest of the world, and that's going to change a lot of American lives forever.

I invite you to visit my home, during one of your Europe trips, so you can see, but more important is to HEAR what kind of knickknacks I bought.

What it sounds like is everything. We agree on that.:2thumbsup:

From the beginning I said use what you want.

My issue is when you use ONE (note the caps) of MANY solutions, then state that one is the best out there.

For one thing, every system is different. It will not affect another system EXACTLY the same way.

Can the evangelism. Restrict reviews to "this item worked for me" rather than go on and on about how wonderful an item is. For many reasons it will NOT SOUND EXACTLY THE SAME to anyone else.
