    Attn. Altec Best - VOTH

AB, a few years ago you posted a thread about finding a set of 6x9 Altec Voice of the Highway speakers.

I never got to hear or see a set in person.

I have a set of ALS4's. They are 4" 2 way speakers that are very well built with a large magnet (not sure on the size or weight). They really sound good for a 4" but I think they are Sparko.

    Curious about your VOTH.....

Did you ever install the 6x9's and how did they sound? Are they efficient?
Would it be worth the effort to acquire a set?
Were they actually made by Altec or rebranded?

OK first the ALS line was made by Sparko. The original Altec VOTH's made a subwoofer system called the AL1 which won awards for automotive sound excellence.I have a few pair of the 6x9's that I will not part with they sound that good.I have some 5.25" duplex's with doped surrounds. When was the last time you seen car speakers with doped surrounds ?

Anybody who has ever heard them always asked me "What in the World do you have in there" That speaks for itself.

Again the ALS line had carbon fiber cones,so if you see that you know they are Sparky's ! Boo Hiss !!

These are the only ones you really want if you can find them ! These were made by Altec of Anaheim.

    AL1
    SK1
    SK2
    6X9 4A
    6X9 4B
    6X9 4C

Out of that bunch the best are the 6x9 4B with a 2000g magnet Unbelievable bass response for a car " Clarity to die For" IMHO.I never heard the AL1 subwoofer system so I can't comment on those.

I'll post some pics for you I have the SK2's and 4A's and the 4B's couple pairs of each. Here's the thread with the pictures as well.

    THANKS AB!

Thats the link I was referring to and thats what I wanted to hear!
It looks like the magnet is about 6" in diameter judging from the picture... IF you have a set handy or have the specs, can you tell me how deep they are?
Not sure why but no one around here ever offered the originals.

I wonder if GPA would/could rebuild a set if I found them.....

    Your Welcome !

I have about 6 pair that need to be re-coned SK1's and 4A's.I already talked to Bill about it.He wasn't sure if he could get the right cones for them. The voice coils are still good just need to be re-coned.I basically bought those pairs like that for $10 for the parts/frames just never got around to repairing them.As if I needed another Altec project at the moment.I just know how they sound and couldn't pass them up.I have the sickness Altecism

They came with a Lifetime warranty if dealer installed ! They will certainly outlast most cars !

I measured 2" depth from were the frame rests on the trunk deck.

I get that! That's the only way anyone is getting mine unless I can figure out how to take them with me and I have given that some serious thought.
