Perkins was the JBL guy who designed the 4560, JBL's A7 competitor. Similar cabs are often called "perkins bins". Basically short front loaded around 160-200 Hz jobs.

Your neighbors called. They like your music.
Bars figured out playing recorded music was cheap. And frankly, a lot of us played just for the love of music. Everything was cheaper. It all adds up. Plus, people don't support live music like they used to. Video didn't just kill the radio star.

As I remember it, disco killed rock, but you could still dance to it. Then came urban cowboy which not only killed Disco, but also killed dancing in bars, and without dancing, no need for live music. Finally, Rap killed everything and has lasted forever and that is when the music died.
Well, actually, Jazz fused with Rock and became Fusion, which was the most popular of any jazz form, but it just died all on it own because I don't know why. FWIW, I became of bar age during the Disco age. Boy was it hard to lower my pride enough to actually dance to that crap but at least it was live music.
