Does the T have a tangerine? Understood had the aluminum plug? There may be both knowing Altec. Pretty sure last pair I fixed had the older plug.

No. Well, ok it could be done. But, you'd have to scavenge the annular plugs and poles from another set of drivers, do some machining, then have the drivers re-magged once assembled and poles centered. It would be a lot of work for questionable gains.
34647 would be the 8 ohm phragm.
Since this was the "theater" version it would stand to reason that they also made 802-16T's, sorry i don't have the 16 ohm phragm numbers memorized.
I suspect OG is right and the early versions were in the old style body with annular slit phasing. They even went on to make a "T" version of the 902, at least long enough for it to make a catalog appearance.

There is a lot of discussion on various boards about removal of loading caps to improve sound.
I've not seen any objective evidence that supports these claims (would love to, if someone has!).
Speaking with Bill at GPA a couple of weeks ago, he told me that he in fact has measured drivers before and after removal of loading cap, and said there is no measurable differences (i.e., it's not worth the money to buy the rear covers, screws, felt, etc.)
I have also read somewhere (caveat: it was Altec marketing literature) that said the loading cap helped to smooth out FR...I wish I had bookmarked that so I could remember where that was.
