Greetings from Toronto - New to Altec Model 19's
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself as a proud new owner of a pair of Altec Model 19's. With my Wifes permission I've recently migrated from Klipsch Cornwalls to these 1976 oak veneered beasts - the speakers of my dreams! With a little elbow grease they will be in tip-top shape.
They are all original, however, are missing the grills and risers. In order to keep the 19's in our family room (and my Wife in the picture) I am required to construct some grills to hide their "appearance" when not in use...a small price to pay.
With that said, I was wondering if anyone could provide detailed dimensions and/or drawings (even a sketch) of the original Altec Model 19 grills and risers. As well, can anyone provide a close up picture of how said grills were attached to the speakers?
I've been reading through the posts on this board for the past two days - such a wealth of information! Looking forward to spending more time with you all.
Cheers,
Adam.

Greetings, Adam, and welcome to the AUB! Always great to have a new member join up, and even better when they are M19 owners, eh?
For your grills, have a look at this thread for some (dated) references to the grill fasteners.
For the risers, there is no magic there, it is just particle board strips that were used at the factory. I recently replaced the risers on my M14's (which are constructed essentially the same as M19s, just different dimensions). Take a look in my M14 thread for the construction details of the risers. You can do pretty much the same thing...

Re: Greetings from Toronto - New to Altec Model 19's
Welcome to the AH board, Toronto is one of my favorite cities and have spent many a day and nights in your land!!! As far as the risers, they are the same dimensions as the spacer between the LF and HF cabs. finding original Altec fasteners for the grills might be hard. I would contact the Darst's for some new horn dampeners and look into the "ground lug mod" for the crossovers. I have had cornwalls and have 19's very different sounding speakers. The 19's once you find a good amp, and a good recording will sound much better than the cornwalls..good luck!!!!

I think this is what you need. You will need 16 per speaker so 2 packs as there are 20 in a pack.

Thanks for the info - I will have to contact them to find out whether they offer a cheaper shipping method - $79.77 (UPS Worldwide Expedited) seems a little steep!

I'm sure they will. When I use my UPS Worldship program and ship to Canada, for some reason the default is the top tier Expedited until I change it to Standard (equivalent to Ground). And when I ship within the U.S. the default is the lowest tier Ground.
That's a great find Altec Best. Just last year I spent many hours online looking for those and could only find strips/rolls or in bulk. I finally gave up before finding a few used on the Bay. Your link is bookmarked.

Re: Greetings from Toronto - New to Altec Model 19's
Yes Adam, congrats on the model 19's!
I too replaced Cornwalls with 19's. And since I had heard 19's a few years pior to this,
I knew for me there would be no comparison. Not to be knocking the Cornwalls,
but for me the Model 19's were far superior. Enjoy em!
And let us know what you find with any mods you might do....caps etc.
