604B's

Have had A 604b with a torn cone and no cross over for several years .Last monday I traded for a 604b with crossover in Jensen cabinet and A 604c with crossover in a cabinet not marked .
Plan on having the 604b repaired but need plans to build the crossover and what cabinet is best for them .The inside demenions of the cabinet that the 604c is in are 32w X 15d X 35h any thoughts that it might be an Altec cabinet.
The serial numbers on the two 604b's are 2841 and 8023 ,can the age be determined from the sn's

C1 = 2 mfd (2-1.0 mfd @ 200 vdc parallel)
C2 = 7 mfd (2-3.5 mfd @ 350 vdc parallel)
L1 = 2.1 mlh., 0.4 ohm DCR Q=20
P1 = 10 ohm pot
R1 = 10 ohm 1 watt +/- 10%
R2 = 20 ohm 2 watt

Frankly though, you're better off doing your own to suit.

This will depend on its specs and whether there will be any significant series resistance, such as a tube amp, or if SS driven, or whether or not you're willing to insert any to trade some efficiency for increased BW.

Don't know. IIRC, there should be a date code though, prefixed by the EIA code #391.

858A is correct . Is there an Altec horn that would be about the size of an EV 8hd so it could be use with the 604 crossed over at 800 HZ and 3K HZ .Woild like to keep this all Altec .

Ah! Thanks, I've only seen pics of the 855/858 in books and don't even recall their model names now. I can't imagine there being anything special about them, so unless you want to do an exact replica, working from a pic and calculating a vent should yield a functional equivalent.
