So I bought these a couple of months ago. Sat in the livingroom since. Got a new TV....Sony HD.....$3300 new....$275 used...I have a good buddy!

    Time to move things around.

I had the MR horns and 902-8A drivers in stock. Also had a pair of M19 crossovers. Woofs are 416-8A...came with the boxes.

So pretty plain living room....but you will get the idea. Don't give me **** ! :-) I'm single.....

Sounds good! I need to try some music through it.

Amps are 10W Heathkit W5-M's converted to DHT 6B4 G's.

    A couple of photos:

    TV1

    TV2

    TV3

Yes, stock wiring....just threw it together.

    Fun stuff as always!

Even more praise in the bang-for-the-buck category!

Thanks gang. I got the A7's for $175. I found the MR small format horns on Ebay a while back for $150 I think. The 902's I got for $50.....before anyone knew they were good. My favorite small format driver. The M19 x-overs were less than $100. You can find deals on ebay if you are patient.

The A7's were sitting in the room, apart, and in the way. So I finally got the gumption to do a little cleaning and moving.

The TV is a model KD-34XBR2. Lucky for me, my good friend wanted a new flat panel tv. I was going to put it in the basement, but at 200lbs, it's too freakin heavy! So, can't get the TV to the Altec room, bring some Altecs to the tv!

Dave, nice to hear from a fellow Portlander! We should get together some time.

The A7 cabs are stone stock...even smell stone stock. But they are the early plywood models. I like the MR horns. Much better off axis response than the 511's I think.

Audio is all through the TV right now. I'll try a CD or two, but my guess is that I will need to buy another good CD player. My buddy who sold me the TV makes his own high quality remote volume control.....might buy one of those as well.

My living room is rather "hard", so not real sure how music will sound.

Altec Geek? Card carrying I'm afraid!

Looking Good! I am in the process of putting together a somewhat similar system. I just bought what looks to be the same TV: 34" Sony XBR960. This is an awesome TV! I am using Altec Malibus, 2x-414z plus 811/806 for my mains and a 9844 clone (same drivers) for the center channel. The surrounds will be Boleros but for right now they are Maderas. I have all of the components to make the Boleros but need to make the boxes. I am not single so the WAF had to be increased! I am building it all into a wall with trim, etc. I will post pictures when I get a little further along.
    I am in Portland also.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Ok, tried some music. A little crude as it goes from the DVD player through the TV. But....sounds pretty good.
It's been a long time since I have heard A7's....a bit thin on the bass, but awesome on the mid bass on up. I added a bit of low end from the TV controls....but who knows where that turn over is.. Too high I'm sure.
The CD horns are cool. And the M19 crossovers work well.
BTW....10 watts will rock you out of the place.
The setup will be very tweakable.....the room needs help.
Funny though, classic Altec sound, but not nearly as good as what I get in the audio room.

    Ron
