Years ago in bathrooms it was common to have a special receptacle for electric razors. I believe it was simply a 1 to 1 isolation transformer to prevent hazardous shock conditions. Now that GFI receptacles are required those razor receptacles are a thing of the past. My question is, are isolation transformers still an approved way to protect people?

    Hi
    I would say yes
as you get into the old wire (nobe and tube)
the u ground recpticals must have a ground wire on them to the nearest ground, but if you change nothing and leave the two pin recpticals in place then all is required is to remove excessible wireing.
now the thing is that the u ground is in place and you know the system is still two wire the accepted method is to GFCI the circuit, instead of running grounds everywhere
