Is there a problem (with a 14\3 leg)using a dimmer switch on the light kit part of a ceiling fan while the fans motor control is on the other leg? They share the neutral

Hmmm, as long as you have 240v across the two hots I can't see why it would be a problem.

Any particular reason you want to wire it this way?

You could use just one hot wire, pigtail two leads off of it and then feed the fan circuit off of one pigtail and the lighting circuit off the other.

Thanks... I wouldn't wire it this way, as it was previously wired this way with a #14\2 feed and a 14\3 leg to the fan\lite kit. Each operated by 1pole toggle switches. I just wanted to dim the light without pulling on the chain.

if the celeing fan have common feed to switch box and from switch box to fan/ light unit this is very typical way for usa verison to use the 14/3 with ground and one of hot wire for fan the second one for light but have white wire for netural and fan and light can work on own ways

    Wink

Thanks. I was concerned that the fan [being a motor cct + sharing the neutral] would cause the lights to flicker or dim when turned on or when changing fan speeds\direction.
