Just like any other bright idea I might come up with this one took some figuring out. And I don't know if it will even work. Common sense would be that if you are going to order up a medication for a patient that you keep some on hand or make sure that it is available in a small quantity if this medication is expensive. Okay...here's the story...most that know me know that I am one of those lucky people that suffer from the worst form of migraine. Well, my neurologist has me on a preventative that works fine and dandy when I haven't been sick with the stomach flu like I was 2 weeks ago OR been put on prednisone which makes me puke hence the preventative doesn't stay put and do what its supposed to do and PREVENT the damn migraines. Well, I blew through the Stadol because of the prednisone and the migraines caused from it and so my neurologist wants to try me on an injection called DHE. Well, I work in a pharmacy and we can get the DHE but only in packs of 10 and can't break them...and it costs 340 bucks. Okay so I call around and find 1 pharmacy in town that breaks them down and the cost of ONE vial is 45 bucks. All of that for a medication that my neurologist said may NOT work or MAY make me sick. I am thinking why don't they have samples of it in the office since you have to buy it and take it to the office for them to show you how to give yourself the shot. Would be easier if they just bought it at cost (we charge doctors cost for medications) and then they could charge the patient a bit more than that at the office. It makes sense to me to do it that way. They have to show us how to do our first shot anyway.
