You know, i felt the girl in question was a little naive, but looking at myself, i see the same behaviour in my youth, i was almost of legal age when i started with alcohol.. sheesh.. almost too late.

Since the moderator of this forum has gone noticably absent I had to look elsewhere for answers to my question.

    Here is what I found:

    "TEEN Question:
    Is drinking alcohol a sin?

    Bible Geek's Answer:
No, the Bible does not say that drinking alcohol is a sin, IF you are of legal age, as long as you drink in moderation, as long as you don?t get drunk, you aren?t dependant on it, AND as long as you do not lead others into sin."

?Therefore, do not continue in ignorance, but try to understand what is the will of the Lord. And do not get drunk on wine, in which lies debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,? ? Ephesians 5:17-18

i believe you might be blowing the situation out of proportion...yes, she understands how many places serve alchohol, (even though she lives in a dry county). she is not pressing her beliefs on anyone else. there are many people who do not like any type of alchohol whatsoever. it wasn't that long ago (my history sucks by the way) that alchohol was made illegal in this country, am i correct? some people don't like the stuff. i was very impressed with her stand against it. i felt the same way (almost) when i was younger, i didn't touch the stuff until i was nearly 22, i felt it was wrong to drink underage (which it is seeing as how it is against the law)

underage drinking and not going to a place
(or feeling 'uncomfortable about places) that
serves alcohol are two separate things.

the american prohibition started in 1920 to 1934...
(for more information, click here )

    this link states:
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size=2 face="Comic Sans MS, Verdana">quote:</font><table border="0" width="90%" bgcolor="#333333" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="100%"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" bgcolor="#FF9900"><tr><td width="100%" bgcolor="#42008c"><font size=2 face="Comic Sans MS, Verdana">Prohibitionists had various motivations for campaigning against alcohol. Most believed that drinking liquor was immoral. Others wanted to take away the power of the urban political machines. Still others used the movement as a springboard for their personal political ambitions.</font></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>

i'm not exactly sure why your friend would feel
uncomfortable about eating at a place that serves
alcohol. there are strict government (national,
state and local) that guard against the sale
of alcohol (and consumption thereof) to minors...
so certainly this isn't her reasoning for feeling
uncomfortable. hell, i ALWAYS get carded....
    and i'm almost 30.

your admiration for her sheltered, unforgiving
brain....er... i mean 'compassion'... is interesting.
especially since you have used it as support
for the removal of something on your board...
    along with the lines:

    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size=2 face="Comic Sans MS, Verdana">quote:</font><table border="0" width="90%" bgcolor="#333333" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="100%"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" bgcolor="#FF9900"><tr><td width="100%" bgcolor="#42008c"><font size=2 face="Comic Sans MS, Verdana">i am willing to honor those people's opinions by removing it from my board, even if they don't ever come to hostboard.</font></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>

why do people electively choose to live their
lives in this type of paranoia/fear?

its like alex and the dead cat issue.... do you
think that if you cover your eyes, ears, and
mouth like a few well-known monkeys do... that
you are aiding in the cause? no. you are just that,
    a monkey.

this absolutely blows my mind. (don't mean that
    in a bad way)

i just don't understand that type of thinking/living.

i'm not stating that you CAN'T think or live this
way... i'm just saying that i don't understand it.

    wait.... let me rephrase...

    i UNDERSTAND slave morality... i guess i don't
understand why people, even in this day and age,
still choose to operate under this philosophy.

Slightly off-topic, but for some reason the word "vegetarian" seems to fit quite nicely in this thread.

ok well, dj explained a bit more of the background
    of this situation to me....

and while i still hold my opinion that no one
should close themselves off to reality (ie...
pretending something doesn't exist by ignoring it),
this girl has enough of a reason to dislike
alcohol.... not necessarily the places that
    serve it, per se.

i do think its fair to mention that this girl
is a fair number of years younger than anyone
posting here.... however, i do believe that
dj admired her strength and compassion in concerns
to her own convictions.... not necessarily that
she was uncomfortable with the 'environment'.

thats all i'll share, as its not my place to
    advertise more on this situation.

The first time i got pissed was on my 16th Birthday, my brother brought me a bottle of Jim Beam, and i drank nearly the whole bottle. When i came home my mum started laughing at me, i think she was cool coz i have 2 older brothers and they used to do the same, or maybe it was she would do the same thing when she was my age. I like to drink, i think its fun to go out and have a drink with your friends, don't get me wrong i don't go out every weekend and drink or anything. Now im the legal age i don't drink that often.
