Lol! Having no magic cards in this country, I haven't even really been looking. The new 300 rule will cause quite a difference. Wow, that'll be quite a deck redesign...
I'm playing in two D&D campaigns?
It's getting a little better...=)
Wife constantly using the computer to play WoW so I never have time to even thoroughly read all the new cards? :D
....no....that was by far the worst. Tell Melissa to lay off the World of Warcrack.
And 25 per color too. Do we even have that right now?

It may have looked slightly different due to changes made in RL and not discussed via the board.
Now that Aaron is back, I think its about time to start updateing the Essentials. I've compiled a list of cards from Alara Block, M10, Zendikar, and Worldwake that could be playable in the Essentials. And I beleive that the Essentials needs to be updated to the new 5-color rules too.

Edit: added Acidic Slime and the Whole Shards block (for completenetss).
How does Mold Shambler make your list but the better Acidic Ooze, that costs one less and has deathtouch (and -1/-1) doesnt?
What about Shards Block?
True, but I want to point out that Mold Shambler doesn;t kill artifact creatures, Acidic Slime does.
Neither here nor there, as I think both rock. I thinlk there's room for a great Disenchant effect or two that can also act as card advantage, and Acidic Slime hhas a better chance with deathtouch, but I love the Shambler too
I had actually forgotten it had death touch until I looked it up again last night. So I consider acidic slime added as a contender. Obviously, not every card I listed here will make it in, but we do have 50 more cards to work with now!
Alara Reborn stuff that comes to mind...
Anathemancer - Great late game draw, can come back if drawn early to finish someone
Behemoth Sledge - Armadillo cloak without the inherent drawback of the 2 for 1
Dauntless Escort - saves the team vs. wrath and most other board wipes
Deathbringer Thoctar - same ability as the vulture, but can function as removal as well
Enigma Sphinx - big enough to cascade into bombs, big enough to be a threat
Jenara, Asura of War - mana sink and good size to begin with
Lavalanche - fireball + controlled board wipe...this sucks to be on the recieving end of
Lightning Reaver - gets killed as soon as it gets a counter
Lord of Extinction - really big and scary but needs trample or some other oomph...
Maelstrom Nexus - Cascading everything sounds good to me
Maelstrom Pulse - NO. It gets splash damage to kill your good stuffs too
Mage Slayer - Remember the guys that used to do this? Now you can do it with good creatures
Necromancers Covenant - great late game draw, but terrible after any of the timetwister type things we play
Predatory Advantage - don't laugh, this one is one of those things that look bad until you see it sit in a 3-5 player game and make a horde
Qasali Pridemage - duh...
Sen Triplets - it's like mindslaver, but more fun. Dies way faster too...
Slave of Bolas - another way to steal guys to block and kill
Soul Manipulation - maybe good enough, but I'm not sold on it
Sphinx of the Steel Wind - robo akroma anyone?
Trace of abundance - seems good, but I don't remember how stable the mana is
Unscythe, Killer of Kings - yay for raising an army from someone elses army
Vengeful Rebirth - overcosted regrowth that is also a bolt or more
Wall of Denial - huge and blocks just about everything
Wargate - finds a guy and drops him into play, but kind of pricy mana wise
Winged Coatl - surprise! your guy is dead
the 5 guys with allied color land cycling should all be there if E. Dragon still makes the cut
Remember, I made this list at 1 am and I think more in terms of EDH than I do for 250 anymore. There are some others that I threw into my deck before I dismantled it for EDH that were just terrible.
Okay, I'm going to start work on this again soon. Later this week Mel's laptop comes, so no more sharing computer time. Also, if I can get mine out of the tiny corner it is sitting in I'll feel like spending more time on it.
Okay, I have the current deck. I will post that list when I begin work. My last excel version is about 6 months before we left. It wasn't updated for Shards or Conflux. I do have a list of all the cards that were "left behind" (or taken out) prior to Shards. Those will all likely be up for consideration again.
We'll need to find a copy of the 5-Color banned list prior to the big change over. All of the cards that used to be banned, and now aren't, will likely be up for consideration.
We needed worry about lands that only produce mana. If it does something extra, then we can both to care.
Lastly, should the new 5-Color Essentials remain physical cards only or should it allow proxies? Should the new Essentials play full power? Now that proxies are allowed, shouldn't every 5-Color deck? Or, should the Essentials remain physical cards only as to show the potential of the format without proxies? Should it just show the best of everything and allow them? Questions. Now we need some answers.
Debate on that. We'll get to the lists soon enough.
Plus the new RotE stuff like All is Dust and other goodies that are out there.

The deck will need around 36 non-land additions.
I think we need to start by pointing out weaker cards in the current deck and picking out must have cards from the new sets.
My first vote on weaker cards is Firestorm. I feel like 90% of the time when I have it sitting I wish it was anything else or I could cycle it away or something. Sure its 1 mana, but by the time its useful I generally have 7-10 available. It just doesn't really do a lot, even if I have a Wonder or Riftstone Portal in my hand... it feels like too much of a liability to use it except in dire circumstances.
I was about to pull Firestorm from my deck. I've used that card maybe twice in the two years of having it.
Another card(s) that Jason and I have talked about are the wishes. We both stated that if it's a good enough sorcery, or land, or whatever, that it should already be in the deck. So if you have it, I would like to see the wish board for those cards.
The last update of the wishboard (like 7/08)

The wish board allows a tool box. Certain situational cards. When you need them, you need them, but they're not good enough to pack main deck. For example, any X burn spell. Without a wish, you really have to waste a spot for that just in case burn.
Ah okay, I didn't know that the wish board was that big. And I feel like Life from the Loam should be main decked...holy amazing card.
Life from the Loam is likely to be main decked. I can't recall why it wasn't before. Perhaps it was banned sometime prior?
For my part the discussions about wishes was that I do not have a very good wishboard (or any wish board) as of right now, so they are underwhelming. Perhaps I should start building one to make it worth while, but I just never took the time or (small amount of) cash to build it.
Shit, wishboards are cheap. It's all situational stuff. Heck, you probably have situational stuff in your main deck that you could move to the board.
Perhaps it is time for Firestorm to join the wishboard. Its use has typically been very situational. But when it works, boy does it ever. It has been quite a valuable card at times past.
Mortivore might be replaceable with something else that is stupid graveyard cool. Perhaps something with inherent trample? (If such a thing exists). The regeneration isn't typically useful due to the regular size of a Mortivore.
Does the deck need Recollect, Regrowth, Restock, and Recoup?
Other than that, there just aren't a lot of obvious weak links. I guess the we have to look at what the proper amount of each thing is. We have an idea for the percentage of land/land fix, but what about the number of artifact destruction cards? Is there too many? Is Ancient Grudge needed? Ect....
The deck is already running way over the normal allotment of land fix. Increasing to 300 should be doable without any additional fixing what-so-ever.
Plus, the RoTE cards coming out soon.
I know. RotE is only a few weeks from release. However, doing the grunt work on all the cards prior to the set means it'll be a lot easier to just analyze that when it hits. It was always easier to update the deck on a set by set basis.
Now though, there's a lot of missed sets and a size increase. That's a lot to consider, especially when the deck doesn't have many obviously weak cards. We have to look for things that are either fundamentally better than a card already in the deck, or just too damned good to miss.
How do you feel about the power issue?
Personally, I'd steer clear of fake cards other than Mox Crystal
cards unbanned and available:
Gifts Ungiven
Intutition
Imperial Seal
Vampiric Tutor
Mystical Tutor
Panoptic Mirror
Survival of the Fittest
Tinker
Wild Research
Yawgmoth's Will
Yawgmoth's Bargain
Demonic Consultation
Might want to consider some of those as well.
Oh, and Contract is now legal in non-ante formats. You just don;t ante.
Also, 250, the format splintered from teh old Five Color, has successfully unbanned for months Phyrexian Mirror and Parallel Thoughts without problem. Only 6 cards are in common on both lists - Battle of Wits, Sundering Titan, Shahrazad, Insidious Dreams, Holistic Wisdom, and Bringer of the Black dawn.
Wait a sec, Contract is now one black, discard your hand, and draw 7!? That's insane. Also it solves that regrowing question :D
Read about the proxies thread. We've been talking about Essentials and Budget Essentials.
