You're not the first one to say this on here.
its kind of like that old truck with 200000 miles you dont want to get rid of, but it keeps letting you down and breaking down on you when you need it. you eventually get tired of it and scrap it at the junkyard because you come to the realization its a pile.
Do what you want, but the Florida and Alabama bandwagons are full. There should be some room on one of them after the Bama/Fla game in Tuscaloosa.
Way to be a true fan!
Wish I could have done that with the Bengals in the 90s and with the Reds throughout the 2000s. But being a true fan is when you stick with your team throughout. I can't stand bandwagons.
Sticking with your team throughout is when it makes seasons like the Reds are having this year all the more worthwhile.
I just felt like last night was a classic example of why Bud is not a head coach. I like Tech, but it seems like they are unable to make a defensive stand late in the games. Not sure if he overcoaches them then or doesn't change up, or tries to go into a prevent more or what, but it is almost without fail.
Not going to take anything away though. They picked themselves up after some really horrible playing and should have won the game. From what I seen and what talk I've heard from a lot of anti-Tech people, they definitely were not getting the homefield advantage from the officiating. Tech is kind of in that bad place, they aren't the top dog so they get the calls, but big enough where they can still be the 'big bad' to a team like Boise St.
I thought the game was called pretty well as whole. Nothing stood out to me as a huge blown call that I can think of going either way.
I feel the better team lost last night. I am still sticking it out with them like I have since I got into football in the late 80s. I love the team but hate College football as a whole. A good or great teams season is pretty much over with one dang loss. NFL does have the edge in that respect. So does the smaller divisions in college ball. Untill the BC$ comes up with a playoff I just cant get into that division of college ball week in week out.
this is exactly what im saying. the past what, 4 or 5 years Tech has thrown it away on the first game of the season. they actually had a chance to make a huge push this year, take the lead and then blow it. i wont be pulling for any teams, as i stated in my first post, ill just watch it to enjoy it. im sure one of the other 4 good games of the year will be on soon.
Well, I don't think Tech has "thrown away" all those games. LSU and Bama were just better teams, so was USC in 04. All of those went on to win the MNC after beating Tech. The ECU game and last nights Boise game VT was the better team but crapped the game away IMO. While I'm seriously disappointed in the way we gave them 17 points, I'm also glad VT didn't fold and fought back. Heck, they scored 30 points in 3 qtrs. The D couldn't get a stop when needed and the next to last drive had horrible play calling.
i love frank beamer, ive met him, but he just isnt a championship caliber coach. hell did you hear the way he was talking before this game? they had already lost and he was ready to go home. making excuses for Tech and they hadnt lost yet. That couldnt have been good morale for them boys. the horrible play calling............... bud will never be a head coach, you dont go man coverage when a QB has the potential to pick apart your young DB's, they jsut cant put it all together in B-burg.
I watched the game last night and the officiating was good. Tech had the Mustangs defense on it heels sucking air but at the same time, they couldn't stop the offense when they had to.
somebody answer me something...
Bud fosters is getting slammed for going man coverage last night and trying to apply pressure on the QB. It didn't work.
A few years back, Bud Foster got hammered for trying to lay back and not apply pressure against Matt Ryan and Boston College. That didn't work.
so I guess he's d@mned if you do and d@mned if you don't. Sometimes things just don't work out. Obviously it is easy to criticize in hindsight. but what if Tech had layed back in zone? Wouldnt the Boise QB had just picked the zone apart and marched themd own the field? Tech's defense this year isn't quite as good as in years past.
But they showed a stat that Tech had ranked in the top 6 or 12 in Defense over the last 10 years or something.
because matt ryan and the dude from BS are two different QB's and the defense isnt as good as it was then as you had already stated. They dont have the DB's this year to play man to man but they did against BC. different teams, different QB's. If they would have gotten beaten in the zone then so be it. the thing is, and im sure people will disagree, but Tech had the better team yesterday and like ive been saying just couldnt put it together. they shouldnt have lost that game and if they would have been better motivated in the first of the game and played hard the whole game this would have been a blowout.
Got to remember also that 10 point came very quickly due to a fumble and a blocked punt. That put the D behind the 8 ball right off.
And I agree that Beamer is a quality guy but will never bring the MNC to Blacksburg. One main reason is the "Good Old Boys Club" that keeps dead weight recruiters like Hite and OCain who don't do diddly out on the recruiting trail thus overloading the ones that do recruit and keeping that incompetent OC Brainsprain who shouldn't be allowed to be OC for a JV team. Frank doesn't have the balz to make the changes yet keeps on harping about that idiotic "empty case".
I can't believe they actually have an empty case in the lockerroom for a future national title trophy. I always thought it was a joke until last night....and well, I guess it is.
When we played for state in 2004 we stopped at VT to practice, met Beamer, and saw the empty trophy case. It was odd, I had on a Maryland shirt, he talked about Maryland then talked about us running the score up on Giles. Somebody has a picture of us all with him somewhere, maybe aoa_stripes has it?
