Farscape

well, like jasoom, i thought the one drawback to the episode was the "too slick" handling of people dying and coming back. the convenient resurrection of the doctor really bothered me, i was glad to see aeryn back, i figured the destruction of scopy's prowler was just a ruse, so wasn't surprised--

but having zhaan at death's door is just a little bit much. i mean, it seems like an unwritten rule of the show that someone has to be dead or dying at all times. since they've gone ahead with this, i hope they at least get two or three good episodes together about what the crew has to do to save zhaan. if they just stick her feet in some alien 'weed and feed' and she's all better next episode, then i think they are really wasting plot time.

on the other hand, i am glad that scopy has escaped with the wormhole technology--that sets things up for quite a number of adventures--and i suspect that aeryn has more problems then we saw and that these will begin to surface.

other interesting arcs are the fact that the scarrans are out to capture scorpius and that crais and tayln diappeared before seeing aeryn--

in fact, crais may still believe she is dead. i don't think he was in communication with the group on the planet before star-bursting.

one loose end--at one point crichton wanted to hoist two cyrogenically frozen people onto moya, saying he owed them because they died protecting him. who were these folks, and did they actually take them?

Crichton did bring the two stiffs on board. They were seen in a later scene.

That wasn't really Scorpy licking Aeryn. That wqas Chrighton all mixed up with Scorius' personality. I thought it was rather disgusting too, but if you look at it from John's point of view...it was actualy a kiss from John in a Scorpy kinda way.

I missed bits and peices of the show and it was so fast paced that I need to see it again.

Ahhhh...thats right. I wonder if they wer humans that were...er.....Abducted. For that matter...Ill bet that the sebacians are humans that were abducted...way back in the caveman days...and have become what they are now through evolution.

That, Im sure...is a topic for another discussionthat hasn't hbeen broached lately.

i also forgot about that. and i missed the fact that they were sent onboard. well, sooner or later crichton has to stumble on humans or near-humans, so this sounds like the lead-in.

iz, the two frozen people were donors which were the closest matches to Crighton that Grundlich could find. I forget their race's name, but they did put up the thought that maybe John isn't the first human to have made it out here or that maybe they're related to humans somehow.

Well, as a newbie to the Farscape series the special was very helpful, so I enjoyed it a great deal.

As to the Aeryn story, I thought she was brought back in a rather easy and predictable way. And just in time to thaw out and blast Scorpi's commandos. How convenient. That's really pretty sloppy writing, IMHO. Much too easy. I don't see the point of killing Aeryn at all if she is going to be brought back in such a fashion. It's really a bit maudlin.

As for Zhaan, she gave of herself to bring back Aeryn, can each of the crew give just a little back to her, and bring her around? I don't know if she can do a "taking" as well as a "giving" when it comes to life forces.

iz and everyone else: you are right about the killing characters for emotional effect. You can see that sort of thing weekly on the soap operas if you are into it.

Wish they'd given more on the backplot of Crais in the special. And just what is Rygel's purpose?

Well, Farscape seems to be back in full swing! I expected "Suns and Lovers" to be a dog of an episode and in fact I think it was way better than the premiere.

For one thing, Rygel is back to being his usual endearing but vicious self. And I was actually glad to see an episode that didn't revolve around Scorpius--I forgot how good these other story lines could be.

There were more hints of storylines to come with the reactivation of the species in the cryo-unit. Zahn seems to be terminally ill rather than on the verge of conking out, so they have some time to develop that storyline.

We get rid of Jofee for a while (yea!) but not before he wrecks havoc with personal relationships.

And this is maybe the first time I've ever heard Pilot chortle with joy--I think just that one scene was a huge one in the development of his character--he actually took delight in getting rid of a villain.

Now I have to wonder--are they going to do something with all these kids they just rescued? I can't believe they're going to add four children to the cast for any length of time.

I think this was also the first episode with a new lead-in for the show, in which Crichton specifically says Earth needs to be warned of what nightmares lie in wait in outer space. I've suspected for a long time that this show would eventually develop Crichton as an emissary who needs to get back to the home planet and warn everyone of what to expect.

I'm pretty sure those kids went back with their parents. After Aeyrn rescues them, she takes them back to the bar where you see the kids run off to meet their family, so I don't think they're going to be joining the crew of Moya.
