Point blank we (as in Region D) are awful in terms of division two. This is my honest opinion that Giles will beat whoever wen send up there. However, I do believe that PV is the only team with a chance to beat them, we know the scheme to stop them. Not sure we have the personel this year, or the ability to get out of Region D for that matter. I predict Giles vs. Gretna in the state title game. With Gretna winning, the only reason I think PV has a chance in that game is past history. PV has a good record against Giles and the last two times Giles has faced the spread they've given up a ton of points. As far as Region D goes, to me the teams playing the best ball right now are PV/CW. The only way they can play again is if it's for the Region D Championship. If this occurs I like PV, it's on the turf and they would have their QB and WR back for the game. Speed gets quicker.

Division 1

Were sending somebody to state, when they get there good luck. Theres no doubt in my mind that either Appy/Norton will be at JMU. More than likely Norton. When they get to JMU your facing tradition, speed, and power. William Campbell is waiting for them and I think this game could be a slobernocker. Both teams are great, the best Norton team I've ever seen play, granted I wasn't here in the 70's when they won state. Even if my Vikes aren't at JMU, I might load up and go up there to watch JIB vs. WC. Sadly, I do think WC wins that game, losing that many years in a row has to be in the heads of JIB. I hope they can bring it back to the LPD though.

So much has changed since the start of the season. If we were having this discussion in early September, I would have wondered if Powell Valley could even get past Haysi in Region D. While Haysi hasn't been playing very good ball for the past three weeks, they might surprise some folks in the playoffs again. When they've played their best this year, they've been as good as any D2 team I've seen this season, regardless of what the strength of schedule has been. And for some reason, Haysi just seems to turn it up a few notches when they're playing Honaker, Clintwood, and Powell Valley.

I wouldn't write off Clintwood either at this point. The season record is a bit deceiving. This is by no means the same team PV played earlier in the season. Following the Clintwood - Norton game yesterday, I spoke to several folks from Norton who seemed to agree that this was the toughest game Norton has played this year.

You may be right PV will go into the Region D playoffs and just dominate, but there are some pretty big hurdles in front of them before they ever get to play Giles.

Alot has changed since the begining of the season and thank god for it because i was afraid we was going to send somebody up to Giles or Lebanon and get beat badly. Right now Powell Valley is playing some great football, they was up on Gate City 27-0 at the half and up on Coeburn 28-0 in the first quarter. Those are good number's no matter what the records of the opponet is. Im conserned they might be hitting their stride just a bit too early. Clintwood... They are a very solid team and nobody should look over them! If they stay healthy clintwood could shock alot of teams. Haysi.. Not playing their best ball right now, could hit their stride in the playoff's or the soft schedule could show to haunt them in the end. Honaker... They too are playing really well right now. I don't think they have hit their stride yet tho, could be a big run in the playoffs.

Still i don't think any of the 4 teams have the luxery to look ahead to giles or lebanon.

Appalachia has improved alot over the season.. at least in my eyes.

Sure, their performance versus Gate City wasn't "awe inspiring", but neither was Burton's versus Clintwood - both games which were played in pretty bad conditions.

Now can Appy beat Burton?

Heck, who knows .. neither team has really went up against any powerhouses (as I've said about Burton before) so we'll just have to see how they'll match up against one another when the time comes again.

I am fairly confident, however, that the score won't be the same 0-47 beating we witnessed many weeks ago .. I think the Dawgs will come more prepared next time.

I don`t think Appy being Reg Champs is such a far fetched concept. I believe it very well could happen. Burton will be playing acompletely different Appy team, seems to have improved throughout the entire year. If I'm not mistaking, it was a while back, wasn`t Appy missing a few key players

I dont think Haysi will do much in the playoffs, with the 4 team league their in and the cream puffs they play, last year will be one of those years they talk about for another 10 years in Haysi.

Burton or appy could perform better than most the teams in D2, PV/App/CWOOD/Burton would make a better playoff.
