On the GC player laying out of bounds - hmmmm maybe called timeout before he hit the floor (after being shoved out of bounds too I might add - no call)
[/ QUOTE ]
Nah, that was made up before the game that if a player was going out of bounds an imaginary TO would be called. You know Coach V had them refs in his back pocket!

Re: officials
You know its pretty sad that we keep having these ignorant threads about officals when their is a section dedicated to this. Give it a rest.

But that's one of the grand things a bout this board, and that is if you see a thread you consider "ignorant", you can just politely pass it by and go on. Much like I did, for the most part, when there were 27 threads at one time on Burton losing in the FB finals instead of just having one thread. I agree, all the numerous post about Burton losing kept the board cluttered for days and it was almost impossible to read what you wanted to.

Re: officials
Calling tight games including hand checks is a big disadvantage for teams from this area when they get to the state tourney. I have been to several state tourneys and other than walks, you bascially have to really commit a hard foul to get it called on you. The teams from this area go into culture shock because of the huge difference in the way the refs call the games.

Re: officials
I'm just curious GC1, have you ever said anything or ever implied that Gate City got a call? got a break? had an advantage or anything? I mean most of the people on here, at times will own up to maybe getting a close call, maybe getting a lucky break or catching someone at a good time, due to an injury or whatever, but I swear, and it may just be the general tone of your posts lately, but I can't remember you ever doing that (not saying you haven't but just at the moment drawing a blank). I mean a time out as someone is falling out of bounds or is laying out of bounds, its a close call, I don't care what the situation is, but yet it seems like everytime someone dares question Gate City, you never give that 'hey maybe we got lucky there'.
Honestly, and I'm speaking purely for myself on this, thats one of the biggest reasons I hardly can find myself backing Gate City.
Everybody else seems to sometimes be glad that they get a lucky break or a good call, but its like everytime Gate City gets a close call, its just clear as can be, and not only is it clear as can be, there was something else that the ref should have called.
I know that we all have our biases, thats completely understandable. It just seems like to me that some of the prententious (spelling not sure) attitudes are what cause most people to have issues with Gate City, not the success.
Anyhow...soapbox off..

Re: officials
Sure Rock, we get breaks just like everyone else. One that comes to mind right off is vs PV in 04. GC was inside the PV 15 when Price ran to the sideline and intended to slide OOB's. Heck he stopped a good yard from the sideline and was call OOB. I'm like WOW! The ref had his eyes closed! And there's many times that I've sat at a game in disbelief because of the call that went our way, but I'll take it. But when a poster gets on here and downs GC coaches claiming they more or less have the refs in their back pockets I will respond. Read the entire thread and see. I was just taking a little pot shot with the TO call.
And as far as attitudes about GC, other teams fans have had attitudes about GC since they came back to the LPD. I've always tried to pull for the team that is in GC's district when they advance in playoffs, but my experience in the LPD has made it hard to back other teams when you sit at a Region or beyond game and see fans from your own district cheering AGAINST you in your opponents section or like at CW a few years back Burtons fans cheering for Council while we were all sitting in the same sections. And I'm not talking about a handful either. It just amazes me how you could cheer against a fellow District member. And people can't come on here and honestly say it hasn't happened.
And plus it has been pretty clear that GC is wanted OUT of the LPD and for the most part not welcome their entire stint in the LPD. So I figure I can have a little fun since our welcome was worn out to a majority before we even came and we are in our final hoorah in the LPD.

Re: officials
Not many excuses to be had this past season in FB, everyone said we were down, and we were.
