Re: officials
It appears to me that so many of the refs have a deep lack of self-esteem and self-worth and as an official it gives them a great boost of confidence and power. It is just the ability to be in control. Maybe before the next basketball game, instead of trying to interpret the 3 second rule, they could find the positive qualities in each other. Seems to me Archer has some sort of personal problem against Coach McAmis. Perhaps, he should give him a call or talk to him like a man instead of posting immature, anonymous comments on the LPD sports message board.

Re: officials
Personally I liked seeing GC in the LPD..But, they never have or never will own PV. Slammin' em twice a season is much nicer than once...when they make it there. Heck..I wish they were stayin!

Re: officials
See, this is a point. You pull to 1 play in 04 as an example. I know that you realize that there are breaks in most every game, but honestly, a few people have really left bad tastes by never thinking that Gate City does a wrong. I sat at a basketball game this year or last year, Gate City got called for a few fouls, and the fans were going insane, and came on here and was talking about how those were the worst, most biased officials ever. I think the other team still committed more fouls than Gate City did, but to them, it was horrible that they could do wrong. It's like the seating on the other team's side. I mean in the past, it was oh we have such big crowds we have to. This year, the crowds definitely were down, but there was still a fair number sitting on the visitor's side. I mean, its like being classy and having respect for the opponent and their fans is out the window.
Now honestly, there is little question that Gate City has a good advantage. Hey more power to them on having that, but shoot, own up to it. Don't belittle people like they are idiots for seeing it and Obi-Wanning them "there is no advantages, you do not see these things". I had nothing against Gate City originally, I knew that they were a good school, with a heck load of talent, and yes numbers, and for the most part, I have little against their players, or have seen very little reason to not support their players, focusingly only on the players. The fans, the community that supports them (generally, not all, there are exceptions of course) is the source of most people having ill feelings against them. Like several on here said, they don't fault Gate City for handchecking like there is no tomorrow if it's not called against them, and if they have the depth (numbers and/or talent) to do so, and make the officials call it all night, then who can blame them. Most blame the officials for not doing it, not Gate City for taking advantage of the situation if they can. Sure I'll be honest and say it annoys me to see that not called, even though it is a rule, just because it would make an hour and twenty minute game go two and a half hours (or whatever the time difference is). I think it was one game a few years back, we decided if the officials weren't going to call it, we would do it right back, 5 minutes in the game we had like 7 fouls to their 2. Then you get the situation where officials have pre-established ideas, as some said on here of certain things they go over before a game, and they go 'oh well Gate City plays that way, they are used to it...but hey this other team doesn't do that, they must be fouling'.
I mean yes, you're right, people should pull within their district and area (most of the time). I do and try to, but the attitude of the fans is the biggest reason I have a hard time pulling for Gate City. No question, success causes people to dislike you. Gate City being successful in nearly everything doesn't even give people much of a chance to get in the mode of 'well we'll get them in this other sport', so it snowballs. I think more people could deal with the success though if there wasn't such attitudes by quite a number of people.
I know we all have our bad eggs, but I also know that I have kept up with things in the past. The LPD isn't the first nor only place that people got really tired of not Gate City but a good portion of their overly obnoxious fans. I mean you know if one or two people don't like you, then it might be them. If however nobody outside of yourselves like you, it might be you. I had a teacher say something like that once to a guy who complained about nobody liking him. The teacher of course tried to explain that there is nobody that everybody likes, you're always going to have some people who will not like you or like someone, be it justified or not. If though, you're a person that nobody likes, you need to look inside and see what the problem is, because it can't be that everybody else is wrong.
I will wish the Gate City athletes luck, because hey one thing that is said on here, they do work hard. No problem wishing them luck, the only negative to that is those fans, with the 'we do no wrong' attitudes benefit from them winning and it just makes them worse.
Anyhow, just figured I'd try to explain things once again...I fully expect some of the Gate City people to read it and say they can see what I, and others I have talked to in the past, say. I also fully expect some of the worst to read it, and see it as nothing but complaining or whatever.

I wrote [ QUOTE ]
Sure Rock, we get breaks just like everyone else. One that comes to mind right off is vs PV in 04. GC was inside the PV 15 when Price ran to the sideline and intended to slide OOB's. Heck he stopped a good yard from the sideline and was call OOB. I'm like WOW! The ref had his eyes closed! And there's many times that I've sat at a game in disbelief because of the call that went our way

Yet as you may have overlooked the 04 example just stood out at the moment. Didn't know you wanted an essay on every call I felt went GC's way. I think I stated that there are many times I have seen calls that went GC's way. I've also saw calls that went the other way. I never said otherwise.

Re: officials
lol.......might as well give up. The almighty has spoken. It's obvious it's alot more personal to some than others. They don't have that much longer to cry about it. Then I suppose all the bitching will be directed back to PV until they have competition again.

Re: officials
GC is a good team, good teams get calls. They get more than their share I'll say that, last night was given to them. I could care less who wins that game, but those two calls on Baldwin, the no back court/walk on Anderson and the out of bounds calls were horrendous.

Re: officials
I have to agree with bamafan in regards to the response from Archer against Coach McAmis. First of all, Coach McAmis is one of the best coaches in the LPD. He truly has a passion for the game and understands and knows the rules of the game. He has played for the best coaches. He has learned his coaching ability from Coach Bentley and from what I remember from when I was in school, Bentley questioned calls and he stuck up for his players, he yelled, he stomped and he got technicials, why should Coach McAmis be given a hard time for doing the same thing that Bentley did? Coach McAmis stands up for his players, heck, he has to. Refs allows other players to push, shove, pinch, knee and elbow JJK's players. I am sure Coach McAmis gets tired of seeing things like that happen to his players and nothing be done about it. But the first time that Kelly defends themselves from one of the above, Kelly is the first to be called on it. How is that fair? The refs see what they want to see. I have seen refs that just kiss right up to certain coaches, Scotty V. is one of the coaches that certain refs will do this too. Not to mention, certain refs will speak to fans during time outs, speak to players and pat their backs...from what I understand that is a No-No for refs. So, if the refs would pay attention to the game and do it fairly (not start counting 3 sec. over, just b/c some coach or fan is yelling 3 sec.), then certain coaches wouldn't have to ask a ref to look their player in the eye and let them know why they called a stupid call!!!! Some refs need to turn in their stripes, because they sure as heck don't deserve to be wearing them!!!!!!
