Didn't Gate City have a sign that said Gretna Who?
I am a GC fan and was there at the ballgame.... We (fans) didn't lose with much class. So the coach was taunting the crowd before the game...leave him alone, he is obviously an idiot. We don't have to play to lowest common denominator.
Both teams got their cheap shot in. GC first and then Gretna later. A bunch of the fans around me started blaming the refs...nope...we just got our ass kicked by a better team. And my guess is, that next years state championship will go through Gretna again.
I used to think the people on here bitching about the GC fans we just complaining...but I am beginning to think there is a lot to it. I played for Coach Fry...he didn't let us play like that and the crowd didn't act like they do now.
It's a shame, really, that a team with the winning tradition that we have at GC has chosen to silently put up with this fans calling opposing players names and the like. Not a proud moment for the fans of GC.
On the other hand this team did way overachieve. Nobody expected us to be in the playoffs...I was one of those people....the guys had a helluva season and no one should detract from that.

I've seen signs like that everywhere regardless of the opponent or magnitude of the game.
There are only so many phrases to put up, ya know! What else would the signs say?
"Don't hurt us!"
"Just happy to be here."
"C'mon, man - give us six!"

Officially retired
Thought I seen you there VTHokie. I hated it for the kids of GC they are great kids and play their hearts out but the 2-3% of GC's fans make it almost impossible to pull for them.

That is more horeshit than that of the fans giving the other teama hard time. Sure shows what kinds of people they were too.

racial slurs are a tad bit more harsh than coaches taunting fans at a game...neither are good, but they're not really on the same level

RRT guy,
I am a former student and football player at Gretna, and I will be the first to say Gretna did a few things that were far from class acts. Gretna has always played with lots of emotion and when the GC fans got into so did the players. Once again, a few of the actions from Gretna were not commendable by any means. I know GC has some fans that make them look bad, but every team has those. Congrats on a good season.
I am a bit curious about one thing and I am not intending to be disrespectful in the least, however, I am curious why the sudden realization of just how vulgar some of the Gate City fans can be? Several people from a wide fan base have constantly complained about the same thing every time they are forced to travel to Gate City. The reserved seating protects the good people of Gate City from having to deal with the racial slurs and the drunken rednecks that ruin it for everyone. It's not just people from this area that I have heard complain about the conditions at Gate City or the actions of their fans. It's quite wide spread and now more apparent than ever, I have heard more this year than in the past. I once thought it was just Burton fans, or at least that was what I was lead to believe by the good people of Gate City.
I am not saying that all fans from Gate City are bad because they are not, as I have stated on more than one occasion however, the seating that they have "shields" them from the behavior of some of their fans and they see them as being "spirited" while the visiting team gets to hear the racial slurs, the derogatory comments made to KIDS, it does nothing but add fuel to the rumors that have circulated about Scott county for years. It makes it hard to pull for Gate City when they go up against schools that one would love to see them beat.
It's sad in a way that those old reserved seating fans had to deal with what EVERYONE from this area has had to deal with for a very long time, perhaps now something can be done. I know everyone has people that are bad or don't know how to act when they are winning or losing I know this, but it just seems like Gate City has always defended it as being "spirited".
I had hoped that Gate City would hang with Gretna a little better and was honestly surprised at the score of the game. With the issues of the last few days with Coach Colobro's brother passing I thought perhaps they might come out emotional and on a mission inspired by their coach. I have such respect for this man, I can't imagine having to lay my brother to rest one day and then having to coach in a State Championship game the next day.
Just some thoughts.

Gretna has a great team and congrats to them on a great season. I usually sit on the home side and it's pretty civil, but saw the idiots taunting before the game tonight. 2 officers came down and took them for a little talk before the game. Totally uncalled for IMO. They had left long before the game was over.
I, for one, am darn proud of our guys, the Coaches, and for the most part, the fans. Our team greatly over achieved this season and were a pleasure to watch. Coach C did a great job coaching these guys up. We were just way over matched in this one.
