Hansbrough

Phil Ford was great. He was the master of the 4 corners. Old fans will say Bob McAdoo was great as well. Both were before my time, but watching highlights of them even today is something noteworthy.

Another great I remember watching was Dante Calabria. He was a great competitor.

Well I dont have a problem one bit with it, he the best player in the NCAA and the hardest working...he's earned it and will continue to do so

do you have a problem with a guy like sheed being better......also having earned it and not being given the same honor?

From the list of retired jerseys at UNC that was posted earlier in this thread, I feel comfortable saying he's lucky if he's in UNC's greatest 10-15 players all time. He's always came off as a whiner to me.

Wow thats strong words for a kid thats a Jr and already has over 2000 points. He's a Jr and he's getting his number put up already. TH is on UNC top 5 list!!!

There isn't a soul in basketball that plays harder then him....

Where does he fit with Carter, Daugherty, Davis, Fox, Jones, Lynch, McAdoo, Montross, Perkins, Reed, Stackhouse, Worhty, Jordan, Cobb, Glamack, Rosenbluth and Ford. That's 17 and IMO he'd have to be better than almost half of those to be in the top 10. He'll prolly be like Daugherty on the next level...

I am not taking anything away from Hansbrough, just giving you a reason why he is such a crucial part of UNC this year and history.

Hansbrough has the advantage of being a good freshman on a team that had just lost 4 people to the pros (Felton, May, Williams McCants). They had nothing but role players in the upperclassmen. He and Ginyard came in and filled the holes left.

They were looking for someone to step up and Hansbrough did. He has a blue collar work ethic comparable to Montross or Lynch who might not have been the greatest athletes ever but were still stars on their resepctive Tar Heel teams. But for what Hansbrough lacks in athleticism, he more than makes up for with determination. The comparison with Montross stems mostly from them both being bloodied by Duke and leading their teams to victories.

Hansbrough is close to being career leaders in points and rebounds. IF he comes back next year, he will surely break both. If he doesn't, then so be it. If he does, does that make him better than Wallace, Stackhouse, Wright, Haywood, Ford, Brown, Reid, Montross, Zwikker, Calabria, Worthy, Perkins, or McAdoo? No. He has been the star of the team for 3 years, 4 if he comes back. Even Jordan wasn't THE star of the team for 3 years. So yeh, he's good, but not the best.

A lot of people say he won't make it in the NBA, but how many good college players do now? He plays within a system built around him. And comes to play every night. No pro team is going to build around him, unless it's the Spurs when Duncan hangs it up. But that is a stretch comparing him to Duncan too, but while he's not explosive like a Beasely or Augustin, he is very, very consistent. You know what you're getting every night he laces up his shoes.
