what can be done year round at the pool???...especially in the winter..
i dind't say be a lifeguard..i said "keep a job AT THE POOL" all yr round..i know that no one would be swimming in it..but there are other jobs..

What pool are you talking about?
I know at most pools you have to reapply every summer because your employment ends when the summer ends and you don't work anymore. You have to put in a new application every summer and have to be hired every summer.
For Norton the parks and recreation director and the city workers takes care of the pool during the months that it's not open. Which is what happens at most pools. There really isn't that much done to a outdoor pool during the months it's not open and if there is something done it's usually by the people that oversee the pool (city manager, parks and rec. director, city works, etc.).

well when they said when summer is over i guess they were talking about when school started back..bcuz the pools are usually still open..and there is still a little work to be done after the pools close in Aug.
I know PV pool said that if i worked there this summer i would already have a job there next summer too...i wouldn't have to re-apply or anything

The end of summer to me is when the pool closes and I have to go back to college, which is a few weeks later than county schools go back. The older lifeguards that are in college are the ones that finish the summer pool season, by cleaning it up and all that, but that usually doesn't take but a week or less to do that.
And from my experience at Norton, my boss has never promised a job for the next summer or said that we didn't have to reapply. I would think that most people would refrain from saying something like that, because you never know how a person is going to be as an employee for that summer and promising a job for next summer isn't exactly the best way to do business because if that person is a bad employee, they would hold it against the person that told them that and force them to give them a job. And usually people don't want bad employees working for them. And for the reapplying thing, from what my boss told me, you have to reapply every year for legal issues. At the end of the pool season marks the end of employment for each person for that summer. They have to reapply since applications expire after so many days and a year would definitely be past the time limit that the application would be valid. Also, for tax reason they need a new application every summer at Norton.
But like I said....I've only worked at Norton so I personally don't know how other pools do things, but I know the park and rec. director of BSG, Donna Mahan, and she usually does things about like Shelly at Norton does....but who knows.
