Re: Creatine?

Right right, but see lifting is the key. Hard work, it doesnt matter what you take, if you dont work hard, and eat right.

Re: Creatine?

On the the subject at hand though. I dont see anything wrong with taking creatine as long as its cycled. Im not sure how old your son is though. I wouldnt get someone started on it too young though. Your natural production of creatine could be hurt if so. That means you would always have to take creatine basicly.

If I was you I would just invest into a ton of hamburger helper( carbs and protein), and buy a bunch of steaks, and chicken. Make your son eat about 3000 calories and 150 grams of protein a day. Get away from eating foolishness though, limit soda because its just useless calories. Make sure hes getting plently of fiber.

Basicly if your son is lifting weights he needs protien at all various points in the day. When he wakes up he needs 35-40 grams, and needs a prework meal with a lot of carbs(pasta). Post workout he needs carbs and 50 grams of protein. Also 50 grams of protien before bed. If hes not getting protien at least every 4 hours then your muscles arent going to grow to its full potenial.

Some bodybuilders actually wake up 5 hours into sleep to drink a protien shake. Then sleep 5 more hours and wake up to another.

So eating right, getting tons of protien, hard work, and sleep is what he needs to grow. Creatine is no wonder drug, but it can help. Though if hes not doing those other things right, creatine isnt needed.

or you can be like me and just blow up when you look at a weight. haha one thing, dont LOAD on creatine, its just a way for the company to make more money there is no point in a loading phase, your body can only handle so much creatine at a time and the rest is just peed out.
Cant we all just get along?

Re: Creatine?

Creatine can definitely help. It's really good at increasing strength, recovery time, and giving you more energy during your workout. I would reccomend a good Whey Protein Supplement over creatine though. Also the muscle gains from creatine are more than just water retention.

For more info on creatine or other supplements go to ast-ss.com and look through the Q&A

Re: Creatine?

I've never taken creatine, nor cared to read much into it?
is it to be taken like a protein drink, post workout, or do you take it pre-workout??

Re: Creatine?

As far as creatine supplementation goes there is a loading phase of 4-6 servings spread out through the day for anywhere from 3-5 days. After the loading phase creatine is most beneficial to take before and after training. But if you was only going to take 1 serving It would need to be within an hour after your workout.

Re: Creatine?

The loading phase isn't necessary but it is a much faster way to get your muscles saturated with creatine. The sooner you achieve this the sooner you will start receiving the benefits of it.

Re: Creatine?

I've always read you want to take it when your body can most readily absorb it, such as early in the morning when you wake up (your body is starved for nutrients from not taking any in for 6 to 8 hours) and after a workout when your body is torn down from lifting. And the whole thing about the loading phase is just to saturate your muscles with it, any that you don't use you excrete.

take it for what it's worth, but a friend of mine ended up with kidney stones from using creatine, I don't know if he took more than the directions call for but he definately had some side effects. Like anything you have to know your own body and keep track of what you consume.

[/ QUOTE ]

I also know of 5 people whom used it and has got kidney stones from it. I have had surgury 4 times in the past year for kidney stones i dont think you would want to take creatine

Re: Creatine?

If you buy a good brand of creatine it won't cause kidney stones. Basically you get what you pay for. If you pay for cheap creatine that you can get from Wal-Mart don't expect too much out of it.
