I am glad that something is finally being done. Although I don't like the 2 on one deal at all, it is at least a start. Now, comes the dirty part of the process. I am willing to bet that no matter which site is picked, the board of supervisors will not like the price tag. As we all know, no project has ever come in under or at the proposed price tag. The lines have been drawn in the sand. One thing I do want to know is what will Norton's expected monetary contribution to this be? Nobody has said that. And, believe it or not, I am starting to believe that both the BOS and the SB have backed off clsing St. Paul for a reason. Wonder what that could be. These two questions do need to be answered to the satisfaction of the people or we are gonna have another big mess on our hands. I just pray for some sanity in all this.
St. Paul will phase itself out. Since about 40% of their students come from Russell County, some of them will go back home. Norton offers a huge savings, both in the composite index and money they will bring to the table. The School Board tonight should be interesting. This is my night with my grandson, so can't go.

Yep, you are probably right about St. Paul, especially since Wise county will only be offering a "core curriculum" there. A lot of folks don't understand anything about the core curriculum and it has them confused. That means, there will be no distance learning, no internet classes, and no A.P. courses to start. No governor's seal on their diploma will be offered either. At least this is how it was explained to me. They will only be offered enough to graduate with a regular diploma. Once the Russell county students realize this, they will go.
You mentioned money to the table, that is what the bottom line is gonna be for a lot of people. How much will they be able to offset the initial cost? I know the composite index will help as it will with the county. Also, there are rumors, and you all probably know where they are coming, but rumors are flying that Norton will be building a separate school on this site, different than the 2 proposed by the BOS. Is there any truth in this?
Another thing, it was my understanding too that the tax base will remain the same since Norton was entering into the talks.

Can you imagine what the rest of the state is saying/laughing at us? LOL, this surprises me it hasn't been on the Tonight Show. The infamous pork rind incident was. This is almost as comical.
To me, any situation that involves the education of the young people of this county for the next 50 years is far from a laughing matter. At times though, I want to laugh to try to cope with just how unbelievably stupid this is and how much embarrassment this has brought my county.

Wasn't talking about the education of the kids, just that our government's inability to put aside partisan politics aside for the welfare of our kids is what others are laughing about.
