In the December issue of Digital Video you will find an article titled "How to make video look like film. In you will find mention of film style production values .. i.e. using dolly shots, jibs, and Steadicam shots...along with good lighting.
Happy shooting!

The Link to the magazine is: www.dv.com
However, you need a password to log in to get a view of most of the stuff on this web site.
On another note, I think this posting would have gotten more views, if I would have chosen another tittle. After all how many Super 8 filmmakers are interested in "making video look like film?"

I don't see how having high production values
will make video look like film. It will just
look more professional to use dollies and cranes.
I think what most videographers are interested
in is finding software that softens the harsh
look of video.

That's also known as "fixing it in post".
A well known Hollywood saying for fixing mistakes made when shooting via post-production editing.

Actually the article was not aimed at videographers, but filmmakers working in video.
The article did cover post production tricks, but the point that I was trying to make is this. feature films speak to use with well executed camera moves.
Then along with the grain, color, depth of field and the organic feel of film. Camera moves also help define the 'FILM LOOK'.
The article was pointing this fact out to DV filmmakers. The same issues should concern people shooting in Super 8.
So find ways to make your film look like it was shot with big boy toys.

Here is a link to software that claims to make your video look like film. I've used it before and it does make it look similar to film. It takes REALLY long to render so if you have 30 minutes of video you'd better be ready to wait. Since I'm somewhat of a (film) hobbyist, you can decide for yourself. I make no claims. I just thought it should be something added to this topic.

I just saw that their site uses frames so you'll have to click on plug ins and scroll down to "cinilook."
