I had a 'day of shooting' yesterday, (half of the day went good, one scene in partcicular will look exactly the way I wanted it to, and the other half was chaos) with the canon-xm2.

Now I wanted to edit some last night, but I get the signal 'device input offline'. Tried jacking in the xm2 into an other computer, same error. That computer mysteriously broke last night by the way.

I've got a dv/in/out-put (always worked with my sony handycam) and the USB output (I believe).

Anyone else had similar problems? And solutions?

Let's start with the simple ones. Have you got the camera set to VCR mode?

Me and my mate have both had similar problems.... overnight, the firewire port just stops working.

Apparently, there's nothing you can do about it, you'll have to get it repaired or replaced. My mate can afford to do this, I cannot, so I'm presently without camera.

Anyway, hope it ISN'T the same problem. It's a pain the ass, a tell thee.

It's not my camera, it's a loan. I think I'll just loan someone else's mini dv camera and insert the mini dv tape into that one. And then upload it in the comp.

But it scares me. Mini DV tapes are fucking fragile.

you should probably try a fire wire connection. I used to have the same problem with a handycam and that's how I solved the problem.

It was the firewire that didn't work. I captured the footage just fine through another camera though. So it's probably the camera that isn't working.
