Jesus Christ... what has the world of movies come to.

Most of you have probably heard, played or seen Doom (that video game from way back, and Doom3 more recently).

Anyways, theyre making a movie based on the game. Which is dubious in numerous ways, since the game itself doesn't have more story than 'dive in and kill demons from hell'. But I guess it is possible to make stories out of non story things. Look at Streetfighter the Movie, for instance.

(I must admit that I preferred Mortal Kombat the Movie when I was a kid, I liked that game at that time and to see the movie I just wanted to see the game characters fighting each other, which was what the movie delivered)

But game adaptations have gone to the next level. See for yourself in the trailer here:

The fucking camera is exactly the same as it is in the game! I don't know what to say. Is is to do the fans of the games justice? I mean, films like these can only be aimed at children (while the game is 18+). Is it trying to be revolutionary? Is it lack of creativity?

I think it's very brave.

Potentially it could recreate a similar experience to playing the game which would make the action sequences amazing.

It will still probably be shit though.

I actually think Doom could actually be quite good. It's actually taken the main element of the game (shooting big fucking monsters with a big fucking gun) and taken it to the screen.

It hasn't tried to come up with a backstory, a prequel, an explanation, new plot, removed everything from the game that made it enjoyable... i.e. Resident Evil/Street Fighter/Uwe Boll's career.

Mortal Kombat did this too. And while it's not the greatest movie ever made, it's a series of fights, just like the game. Therefore, so far, it's the best game-to-film transfer.

Also, The Rock's pretty cool. He could very well be the next Arnie, with the added ability of being able to act.
